About Us: The Waysmeet Center is a small non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the basic needs of our local community. We have a food pantry, programs that aim to bring together area residents and UNH students, and we provide safe, affordable housing for UNH students. In addition to the Food Pantry Manager, we employ a full-time Executive Director, UNH student interns, and an hourly bookkeeper. We have 18 weekly volunteers who keep our food pantry running, and countless short term volunteers who support our programming and operations throughout the year.

Our Mission: The Waysmeet Center addresses basic needs in the UNH, Durham, and Seacoast area through programs grounded in compassion, inclusion and community-building.

Position Summary: The part-time Food Pantry Associate will work 6-11 hours per week assisting in the operations of Cornucopia Food Pantry. This person will work closely with the food pantry manager to ensure that Cornucopia’s programming runs efficiently, aligns with Waysmeet’s values, and has a measurable impact. The Food Pantry Associate will contribute to Waysmeet’s identity as a welcoming space for all and a place of refuge for those in need. They are responsible for the weekend operations of Cornucopia Food Pantry as well as training and supervising weekend volunteers.

Key Responsibilities

Food Pantry Management:
\n

- Oversee Cornucopia Food Pantry operations Friday-Sunday:
- Prep the food pantry for weekend volunteers: ensure the pantry is clean and the driveway is clear of snow and ice during winter months. The food pantry associate will operate a snowblower.
- Ensure all weekend food rescue pickups are complete and all food is put away in accordance with safe food handling guidelines.
- Ensure that Cornucopia Food Pantry adheres to all applicable local, state, NH Food Bank, and federal food safety standards.
- Maintain the physical infrastructure of the food pantry including checking refrigerator temperatures, cleaning inside and outside of the pantry, clearing snow and ice from walkways, trash, recycling, and compost removal, and vehicle care.
- Report emergency building and appliance maintenance issues to the food pantry manager.
- Ensure the safety and security of the food pantry.

Volunteer Management:

- Supervise weekend volunteers, cover absences as needed.
- Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and professional volunteer environment.
- Train and oversee weekend volunteers.

Qualifications:
\n
Education: High school diploma required, Bachelor’s degree preferred. Experience may be substituted for education.
\n
Preferred Experience: Food service, nonprofit administration, or volunteer management. Volunteer or employment experience in a housing or food insecurity organization providing direct service.
\n
Preferred Skills and Qualities:
\n

- Strong management skills, with the ability to train and lead one-time and long-term volunteers.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Passionate about community service and Waysmeet’s social justice mission.
- Knowledgeable about the Seacoast area food system.
- Committed to responsible waste management, including minimizing food pantry waste and properly sorting waste for compost, recycling and the landfill.
- Certified as a ServSafe Food Protection Manager within the first 30 days of employment.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Other Requirements
\n

- Physical Requirements: Standing, walking, sitting, climbing stairs, stooping, crouching, kneeling, lifting and carrying up to 60 pounds, pushing, pulling, reaching overhead and driving.
- Ability to drive The Waysmeet Center’s minivan: Must hold a valid drivers license and have a clean driving record. A driving record check will be conducted prior to driving the van.
- Prior to hire, candidates must complete a criminal background check.
- Cornucopia Food Pantry is a partner agency of the NH Food Bank. After hire, candidates must complete training and certifications with the NH Food Bank and become familiar with policies outlined in the NH Food Bank Partner Agency Handbook.
- Schedule: 6-11 hours per week in person. At a minimum, the Food Pantry Associate must be at Waysmeet on Saturday and Sunday 8-11am. The remaining hours will be scheduled as needed on Fridays, to be coordinated with the Food Pantry Manager.

Compensation: $15 per hour, commensurate with experience. Opportunity for a pay increase.
