The Town of Brewster is seeking applications for the position of Maintenance Mechanic for the Department of Public Works (DPW). This position is responsible for assisting the Master Mechanic in the maintenance and repair of various Town vehicles and equipment.
Under the general direction of the DPW Master Mechanic, the Maintenance Mechanic performs routine maintenance and inspection on gas, diesel, hybrid, and electric town vehicles and equipment, including but not limited to police, fire, DPW, and water department. Repairs and maintains equipment associated with the Recycling Center operations including compactors, loaders, trucks and trailers. Enter vehicle and equipment inspections, repairs, and service history into fleet maintenance software system. Participates in snow and ice removal operations and participates in continuing education to maintain skills with evolving fleet maintenance technologies. This position is subject to occasional mandatory overtime.
High School diploma or equivalent and minimum three years’ experience in vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Class B CDL and 2A, 1C, and 4G hydraulics licenses required or the ability to obtain licenses in the first year of employment. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who is eager to learn new skills. This is a full-time, year-round 40 hour a week position covered by the Service Employees International Union agreement with a pay range of $29.09 - $35.77 per hour, starting pay depending on qualifications and experience.
