Controller – Public Pension System
The New Hampshire Retirement System (NHRS) is seeking an experienced Controller to lead its general ledger accounting and financial reporting functions. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Controller is responsible for ensuring compliance with GASB and GAAP standards, overseeing investment accounting, managing audits, and preparing the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR). This position plays a vital role in safeguarding the financial integrity of NHRS and supporting its strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage all general ledger and financial reporting activities
- Oversee complex investment accounting across global markets
- Lead the preparation of monthly financials and the ACFR
- Serve as liaison to auditors, actuaries, and state financial offices
- Supervise staff and ensure strong internal controls
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (MBA/CPA preferred)
- 10+ years of experience in accounting, finance, or public pensions
- 4+ years in a supervisory or managerial role
- Strong knowledge of GASB, GAAP, and investment accounting
