Weston & Sampson is seeking a full-time Senior Project Environmental Scientist to support our permitting group in one of our Massachusetts or New Hampshire offices. The candidate will support multiple projects simultaneously and will have the opportunity to represent the company and our clients at public meetings, workshops, meetings with federal, state, and local agencies, and meetings with other stakeholders in conjunction with permit application review. Experience in regulatory permitting is a must.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead environmental permitting efforts for a wide range of public and private sector projects throughout Massachusetts and New Hampshire, including local, state, and federal permit applications and technical reports.
  • Prepare and manage permitting under the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act, Chapter 91 Waterways Licensing, MEPA/NEPA, Section 401/404 of the Clean Water Act, Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act, and New Hampshire environmental regulations, including NHDES Wetlands Bureau permitting, Shoreland Water Quality Protection Act compliance, Alteration of Terrain permitting, and other state and federal environmental review requirements.
  • Coordinate with municipal Conservation Commissions, state and federal regulatory agencies, and project stakeholders to successfully advance projects through the permitting process.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced consulting environment, balancing technical, budgetary, scheduling, and client service responsibilities.
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams in the preparation of environmental permit applications, supporting documentation, and regulatory compliance strategies.
  • Conduct wetland resource area delineations and field investigations using U.S. Army Corps of Engineers methodologies and applicable state regulations.
  • Attend and present projects at public hearings, regulatory meetings, and stakeholder engagement sessions.
  • Support business development activities, including proposal preparation, client engagement, and marketing initiatives.
  • Mentor, supervise, and develop junior staff through technical guidance and project leadership.
  • Participate in professional organizations and contribute to industry advancement through committee involvement, presentations, and technical publications.


What You'll Bring:

  • 5-10+ years of environmental consulting experience, with a strong emphasis on wetlands permitting and regulatory compliance.
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Natural Resources, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience navigating complex environmental permitting processes and regulatory approvals for projects in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, including coordination with local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Experience permitting transportation, energy, water resources, or infrastructure projects.
  • Experience presenting projects before Conservation Commissions, planning boards, regulatory agencies, and public audiences.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and multiple project deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced consulting environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of Massachusetts and New Hampshire environmental regulations; familiarity with Connecticut permitting programs is a plus.
  • Excellent written, verbal, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Willingness to travel periodically throughout Massachusetts and the Northeast for client meetings, public hearings, and field work.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Professional certifications such as Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS), Certified Wetland Scientist, Certified Soil Scientist, Certified Wildlife Biologist, or similar credentials are preferred.
  • Experience conducting ecological assessments, wildlife habitat evaluations, rare species reviews, or environmental monitoring is a plus.

Salary Range: $90,000.00 - $120,000.00 based on years of experience
