Premier Coach is growing our fleet maintenance team! We are actively recruiting for the position of Diesel Mechanic, with an opening in Rutland, VT. We offer competitive wages commensurate with experience, Medical, Dental, Vision, uniforms and a 401K with a match. Our service bays are equipped with lifts, so we do most of our work standing up!
Diesel Mechanic (Rutland VT)
- Full Time
Under limited supervision, performs work of moderate difficulty in the repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment; performs related work as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS
- Diagnose and repair vehicles and equipment.
- Consult with coach drivers on problems incurred while the coach is in active service.
- Perform inspections and preventive maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
- Prepare and maintain records and reports.
- Other duties as requested by the Terminal Supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of:
- Methods, materials, tools and techniques used in vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance.
- Diagnosing mechanical problems and performing repairs.
- Safety practices and procedures.
Working knowledge of:
- Methods, materials, tools and techniques used in vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance.
- Diagnosing mechanical problems and performing repairs.
- Electrical and computerized systems.
- Knowledge of pneumatic systems and air brakes.
- Safety practices and procedures.
Skill in:
- Use of power and hand tools.
- Use of diagnostic equipment.
- Operation of vehicles and equipment for diagnostic purposes.
Ability to:
- Diagnose problems and make repairs in the field when necessary.
- Effectively handle lifting of various objects weighing up to 60 pounds.
- Work extended hours out of doors in a variety of weather conditions.
- Prepare and maintain records and reports.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees
- Follow written and verbal instructions, including manufacturers’ service specifications.
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Associate Degree in Diesel Technology preferred.
- High school diploma or the equivalent is required.
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information.
- One year of experience in vehicle equipment repair preferred.
- General knowledge of vehicle mechanical operations.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Accept calls after normal business hours to conduct emergency coach repairs. This is not necessarily an exhaustive list of responsibilities, skills, duties, requirements, efforts, or working conditions associated with the job. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS
- The Mechanic works in the service lane, which is in an open garage area.
- Position requires stooping, bending and moving throughout the service department.
- May lift up to 60 pounds occasionally.
- Works with service customers for most of the shift.
- May work with a Video Display Terminal. He/she will be exposed to noise, vibration, dust, exhaust fumes, and other hazardous and non-hazardous materials. Road-testing of vehicles also may be required.
- A current Vermont Drivers License required.
- CDL preferred within six months of employment.
EVALUATION
The Fleet Manager will evaluate performance on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $21.00 - $38.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
