Work Arrangement: Remote/Hybrid with regular travel to local NOA divisions as needed for open enrollment meetings, employee benefit support, divisional meetings, and broker/vendor consultations.
Position Summary
Northeast Orthopaedic Alliance (NOA) is seeking a highly organized, strategic, and employee-focused Benefits & Compensation Manager to lead the administration, analysis, and continuous improvement of compensation and benefits programs across all NOA divisions. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Human Resources, this position serves as a key member of the MSO Human Resources leadership team and is responsible for supporting both corporate-level initiatives and divisional HR operations.
The Benefits & Compensation Manager will oversee the full lifecycle of employee benefits administration, compensation planning, retirement programs, leave management coordination, open enrollment processes, compliance reporting, vendor relationships, and employee education. This role partners closely with division leaders, payroll, finance, brokers, and external vendors to ensure NOA offers competitive, compliant, and employee-centered programs that support recruitment, retention, and organizational growth.
This is a hybrid/remote full-time role based out of your home with the expectation to traveling locally as needed to each divisional location during open enrollment periods, employee meetings, vendor reviews, broker discusiions and other HR-related initiatives.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Benefits Administration
- Manage and administer all employee benefit programs across all NOA divisions including:
- Medical
- Dental
- Vision
- Health Savings Accounts (HSA)
- Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRA)
- Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)
- Dependent Care Accounts
- Life and AD&D Insurance
- Short-Term and Long-Term Disability
- Retiree Medical Plans
- COBRA administration
- Lead annual open enrollment planning, testing, communication, employee education sessions, and implementation.
- Coordinate divisional and corporate open enrollment meetings both virtually and in-person.
- Serve as the primary liaison with benefit brokers, insurance carriers, retirement vendors, and third-party administrators.
- Evaluate benefit plan utilization, trends, and employee feedback to recommend program enhancements.
- Respond to employee benefit inquiries and resolve escalated benefit-related issues.
- Maintain benefit plan documents, summary plan descriptions, notices, and employee communications.
- Coordinate leave administration processes related to FMLA, medical leaves, and benefit continuation.
- Assist with wellness initiatives and employee engagement programs related to total rewards.
Compensation Management
- Support development and administration of compensation strategies across all NOA divisions.
- Conduct compensation reviews, wage analyses, and market benchmarking.
- Participate in annual salary surveys and compensation audits.
- Assist leadership with pay scale development and compensation recommendations.
- Ensure internal equity and competitive market positioning.
- Partner with HR leadership and finance teams on budgeting and compensation planning initiatives.
- Support bonus tracking and compensation-related reporting.
Retirement & Compliance Administration
- Administer 401(k) retirement programs including:
- Deferrals
- Loans
- Eligibility tracking
- Funding coordination
- Profit sharing support
- Annual audit preparation
- Coordinate annual Form 5500 processes and retirement plan compliance activities.
- Assist with ACA reporting and audits.
- Support compliance with ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, and applicable federal and state employment regulations.
- Coordinate PCORI filings and other benefits-related compliance reporting.
- Support nondiscrimination testing and benefits audits.
HR Operations & Collaboration
- Partner closely with payroll, HR, finance, and divisional leadership teams to ensure accurate employee data and benefits administration.
- Maintain benefit and compensation records within HRIS/ADP systems.
- Assist with HR policy and procedure development related to compensation and benefits.
- Participate in employee orientation and onboarding presentations related to benefits and total rewards.
- Support employee retention and engagement initiatives through effective communication and education around benefits offerings.
- Assist in developing employee communications, presentations, and educational materials.
- Participate in vendor evaluations and broker review meetings.
- Travel to divisional offices as needed to support employee meetings, enrollment sessions, training, and HR initiatives
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive Human Resources experience with significant focus in benefits and compensation administration.
- Multi-site or healthcare industry experience strongly preferred.
- Experience supporting multiple divisions or locations preferred.
- Experience with HRIS systems, preferably ADP Workforce Now.
- Experience managing benefit vendors, brokers, and retirement plans.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of employee benefits administration and compensation practices.
- Working knowledge of ERISA, COBRA, ACA, HIPAA, FMLA, and related employment laws.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational and project management abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with employees at all organizational levels.
- High level of confidentiality, professionalism, and discretion.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.
- Ability to travel periodically to divisional locations throughout Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to work remotely while maintaining regular communication and responsiveness.
- Ability to attend in-person meetings at divisional locations, Waltham, MA, Springfield, MA, Andover, MA, Nashua, NH, Concord, NH
- Ability to sit, stand, and use standard office equipment for extended periods.
