Current Opening
On the Road to Wellness is seeking a dependable, personable individual to join our Peer Support Agency team in a unique role combining community transportation, peer support, participant engagement, and opportunities to support programming within our walk-in centers.
This is not a traditional driving-only position.
Transportation is the primary scheduled responsibility, but this position is part of our broader peer support team. The right candidate will have opportunities to engage with participants, provide peer support, assist with groups and activities, work additional midday hours when available, and become cross-trained within other On the Road to Wellness programs.
Regular Schedule
The primary transportation schedule is:
Monday through Friday
8:30 AM – 10:30 AM Morning transportation — assisting participants with getting to the walk-in center
2:30 PM – 4:30 PM Afternoon transportation — assisting participants with returning home
Approximately 20 regularly scheduled hours per week
Transportation responsibilities alternate between our two Peer Support Agency locations:
- Week 1: Derry, NH Walk-In Center
- Week 2: Manchester, NH Walk-In Center
- The rotation then repeats
This split schedule also creates opportunities for employees who are interested in picking up additional hours between transportation shifts.
More Than Transportation
While safe and reliable transportation is an essential part of this position, the role provides an opportunity to become meaningfully involved in peer support work.
Depending on organizational needs, availability, training, and employee interest, additional hours may include:
- Providing one-on-one peer support
- Engaging with participants within our walk-in centers
- Facilitating or co-facilitating peer support groups
- Supporting wellness activities and other participant programming
- Assisting with community engagement and special events
- Helping participants connect with community resources and supports
- Providing additional coverage within the Manchester or Derry Walk-In Centers
Employees may also have the opportunity to be cross-trained to work within our Step-Up Step-Down residential program on a per diem basis, creating additional opportunities for hours and experience within On the Road to Wellness.
Community Outings & Events
Our organization provides regular opportunities for participants to connect with their communities through outings, recreational activities, educational opportunities, and special events.
This position will occasionally provide transportation and peer support for these activities.
Community outings and events typically occur approximately once per month and may take place between the hours of 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM.
Availability for every outing or event is not expected; however, flexibility and interest in participating are strongly encouraged.

What We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone who understands that the experience begins before a participant ever walks through our doors.
The person driving our vehicles is often the first and last staff member a participant interacts with that day. Being welcoming, respectful, dependable, and comfortable engaging with people is just as important as being a safe driver.

- A strong commitment to personal recovery, self-care, and wellness
- A genuine interest in supporting people experiencing mental health challenges
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Reliability, accountability, and a strong work ethic
- The ability to consistently report to scheduled shifts on time and prepared to work
- Safe, responsible, and courteous driving practices
- Comfort interacting with and supporting a diverse group of adults
- A willingness to be open, honest, and thoughtful about how lived experience can appropriately support others
- Respect for individual choice, dignity, boundaries, and different pathways to recovery
- An interest in learning additional aspects of peer support beyond transportation
- A willingness to complete training to become a Certified New Hampshire Peer Support Specialist within one year of hire
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a peer-led team
Employment Requirements
Candidates must be able to:
- Maintain a valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Safely operate organizational passenger vehicles
- Pass a BEAS Registry screening
- Pass a New Hampshire Department of Safety background screening
Previous justice involvement is not automatically disqualifying. Our staff are informed by a wide range of lived experiences, and we recognize the insight, compassion, and perspective those experiences can bring to peer support work.
