Historic New England (HNE) seeks an experienced museum collections professional to join its growing Collection Services team in the role of Exhibition Coordinator. Knowledgeable and skilled in museum exhibition and registration practices, the Exhibition Coordinator will coordinate the internal and external activities related to the planning and implementation of temporary exhibitions at the Center for Preservation and Collections in Haverhill,Massachusetts and the Eustis Estate in Milton, Massachusetts.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assists with the development of HNE exhibitions from initial concept through implementation and works with established exhibition teams to develop complete exhibition budgets and schedules.
- Responsible for coordinating exhibitions at both the Center for Preservation and Collections in Haverhill, Massachusetts and at the Eustis Estate in Milton, Massachusetts.
- Primary duties include tracking deadlines and deliverables (scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, documents, and assignments), and coordinating the work of outside designers, contractors, and vendors.
- Drafts designer, artist, and guest-curator contracts, MOUs, and RFPs.
- Works with the Registrar on shipping arrangements, insurance requirements, and maintaining up-to-date facility reports.
- Oversees loan agreements and corresponds with donors and lending institutions.
- Manages exhibition case and display furniture inventory, movement, and storage.
- Coordinates printing, framing, fabrication, and other art production.
- Researches and purchases exhibition-related materials.
- Participates in the installation and deinstallation of exhibits.
- Creates digital content for exhibitions (web app) and assists with securing exhibition-related rights and reproduction needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors degree in history, art history, material culture, museum studies, or equivalent combination of skilled credentials to includefive years of related employment experience.
- Knowledge of museum exhibition and registration practices and collection care methods for art, artifacts, and archives.
- Experience with shipping and crating protocols.
- Project-management experience in a not-for-profit setting, preferably in a museum environment.
- Experience with collection management databases and digital assessment management practices. Experience creating digital content and WordPress.
- Fully competent computer skills, including skilled use of MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel spreadsheet functions.
- Ability to operate effectively in a team environment, where communication between and among teams is essential to success.
- Valid drivers license and reliable means of transportation.
