Vermont Cider Company is seeking a Cellar Operator to join our weekend shift team in Middlebury, VT. Weekend schedule is Friday to Sunday, 6:00 am to 6:30 pm. Work 36 hours, get paid for 40 hours plus a shift differential for hours worked on Saturday and Sunday.


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: (Additional duties may be assigned)

  • Comply with all Cellar standard operating procedures.
  • Disassembly and reassembly of Cellar equipment for purposes of cleaning and sanitizing using both COP and CIP procedures.
  • Perform CIP of cellar equipment.
  • Build fermentation blends and product blends by interpreting recipe sheets and adding appropriate materials.
  • Deliver analytical samples to Quality Control for analysis.
  • Perform environmental cleaning in fermentation and blend tank areas.
  • Perform basic preventative maintenance on equipment as it pertains to Cellar operations.
  • Perform general repairs of equipment as directed by the Cellar Supervisor.
  • Comply with all safety requirements.

Requirements:

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience as a Cellar Operator or similar role a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to learn and display a good understanding of the fermentation and blending process and perform such tasks within 6 months.
  • Must be able to display basic math skills.
  • Must be able to navigate control screens enough to initiate and cease CIP operation.
  • Must be able to diagnose mechanical issues interfering with Cellar processes and troubleshoot accordingly.
  • Must have basic project management skills sufficient to complete assignments as directed by the Manager.
  • Forklift certification a plus.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. routinely.
  • Must be comfortable wearing proper protective equipment while using chemicals.
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals and production line CIP chemicals is routine.
  • Position requires light maintenance work in a mechanical setting.
  • Operators are frequently required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The position can involve standing, walking.
  • Job is performed standing all day on concrete floor.
  • Job requires substantial movement/motion with regard to walking, bending, lifting, grasping and applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palms.
