Job Summary

TOR Engineering is seeking a skilled and motivated Transmission Line Engineer III to support the design and project management of transmission and distribution (T&D) line projects for utility and commercial clients. Projects range from 4.2 kV to 500 kV and include structural analysis, conductor selection, and modeling using PLS-CADD.

This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who is detail-oriented, customer-focused, and capable of leading projects while collaborating with internal teams. As part of a smaller, agile organization, you’ll have the opportunity to build direct relationships with clients and play a key role in project success.

Note: This is a full-time, in-office position based in Phoenix, AZ. Field visits will be required, and company vehicles will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop engineering deliverables including:
    • Plan & Profiles
    • Primary & Conduit Diagrams
    • Transmission Section Maps
    • Structure & Framing Details
    • Permitting Exhibits
    • PLS-CADD models for overhead transmission lines
  • Coordinate with sub-consultants across civil, structural, and related disciplines
  • Prepare detailed Bills of Material
  • Establish loading and clearance criteria
  • Develop and review technical specifications for equipment and construction
  • Review and approve contractor submittals and RFIs
  • Perform QA/QC on engineering designs
  • Conduct site visits to verify field conditions and compare with design documents
  • Support proposal development, project scoping, scheduling, and budgeting
  • Ensure designs meet National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and client standards
  • Perform system analyses (lightning performance, circuit ratings, corona, losses, etc.)
  • Lead client communications, design reviews, and project updates
  • Forecast and refine project cost estimates and cash flows
  • Support business development and client relationship growth
  • Mentor and guide junior engineering, design, and drafting staff

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical, Structural, or Mechanical) from an accredited university
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in transmission and distribution (T&D) design
  • Engineering in Training (E.I.T.) certification required
  • Proficiency in PLS-CADD (required)
  • Working knowledge of CAD software
  • Strong understanding of engineering design principles and project workflows
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to lead projects and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing project requirements and client needs
  • Strong attention to detail and customer service mindset
