Schedule: Tuesday through Saturday, with occasional Sunday and Monday shifts

Shift Hours: 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM or 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Position Overview

This is a multifaceted, hands on position that combines barista responsibilities, playroom attendance, party hosting, customer service, and general cafe operations.

All team members are expected to be cross trained and comfortable working in every area of the business. Daily responsibilities will vary based on staffing, customer traffic, events, and operational needs.

This is not a barista only or playroom only position.

Key Responsibilities

Coffee Bar & Food Service

• Prepare and serve espresso beverages, specialty lattes, refreshers, and other menu items according to company recipes and standards.
  
  
• Prepare and serve food items while following food safety and sanitation procedures.
  
  
• Operate the point of sale system, process payments, and handle transactions accurately.
  
  
• Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked coffee bar and food preparation area.
  
  
• Follow all food handling, allergen awareness, cleaning, and sanitation protocols.
  
  
• Assist with opening and closing duties, inventory, and restocking.
  
  

Playroom Operations

• Welcome families, assist with check ins, and explain playroom policies and expectations.
  
  
• Monitor playroom activity, encourage safe play, and communicate safety concerns to caregivers and management.
  
  
• Clean, sanitize, and organize toys, play structures, sensory rooms, and common areas throughout the day.
  
  
• Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for children of varying ages and abilities.
  
  
• Respond promptly and professionally to guest questions or concerns.
  
  
• Support daily play sessions and transitions between activities.
  
  

Birthday Parties & Special Events

• Assist with setting up, hosting, and cleaning up birthday parties, private events, and themed activities.
  
  
• Welcome party guests and provide friendly, attentive customer service.
  
  
• Help prepare party rooms, decorations, food service areas, and event supplies.
  
  
• Coordinate with other team members to keep events running smoothly and on schedule.
  
  
• Assist with character events, community activities, and special programming as needed.
  
  

General Cafe Operations

• Perform routine cleaning and sanitizing throughout the entire facility, including restrooms, tables, floors, play equipment, and shared spaces.
  
  
• Assist with laundry, trash removal, restocking, and daily facility maintenance.
  
  
• Follow all company policies, safety standards, and operating procedures.
  
  
• Communicate effectively with coworkers and management.
  
  
• Take initiative and assist wherever needed to support daily operations.
  
  
• Complete other reasonable duties necessary for the safe and efficient operation of Village Play Cafe.
  
  

Qualifications & Expectations

Required

• Open availability Tuesday through Saturday between 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
  
  
• Flexibility to work occasional Sundays and Mondays as business needs require.
  
  
• Ability to work rotating shifts of 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM and 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
  
  
• Dependable attendance, punctuality, and reliable transportation.
  
  
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
  
  
• Willingness to learn and perform all aspects of the position. Must be willing to obtain ServSafe Management certification paid for by Village Play Cafe
  
  
• Ability to multitask and remain organized in a busy environment.
  
  
• Comfortable working around young children and families.
  
  
• Ability to follow food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures.
  
  
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, bend, reach, and perform routine cleaning tasks, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred

• Previous barista, coffee shop, restaurant, or food service experience.
  
  
• Experience working with children, families, or in an indoor play facility.
  
  
• Experience hosting birthday parties or special events.
  
  
• Familiarity with espresso equipment and point of sale systems.
  
  

Previous experience is a plus, but a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn are equally important.

Scheduling & Availability

This is a part time position with a variable weekly schedule.

• Employees must maintain open availability Tuesday through Saturday from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
  
  
• Some Sunday and Monday availability will be required for special events or operational needs.
  
  
• Scheduled shifts will generally be either 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM or 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
  
  
• Employees will rotate between opening and closing shifts from week to week.
  
  
• The number of scheduled days and hours may vary weekly based on business needs.
  
  
• A consistent number of weekly hours is not guaranteed.
  
  

Applicants must be comfortable with a flexible schedule and willing to work both shift times.

Additional Information

Village Play Cafe does not currently offer an employee childcare benefit. Employees are responsible for arranging their own childcare during scheduled shifts.
