Schedule: Hybrid (3 days in office, 2 days remote)
Compensation: $130,000 – $170,000 annually

We are seeking a Process Utilities Engineer IV (Senior Level) with deep expertise in life sciences manufacturing to lead complex process utility system design and execution across high-impact projects.
Job Overview
The Process Utilities Engineer IV serves as a senior technical leader responsible for the design, coordination, and execution of high-purity and process utility systems within regulated life sciences environments. This role leads discipline execution at the project level, directs engineering teams, and ensures all systems meet ASME BPE and cGMP/GMP requirements.
This is a hands-on design and delivery role. Candidates must have led projects and executed detailed engineering work. Owner-side-only backgrounds will not be a fit.
Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical & Design Leadership

Lead the design and specification of process utility systems, including:

Chilled Water
-
Purified Water
-
Clean Steam
-
Process Waste
-
Process Gases
-
High-Purity Utility Systems
-

Develop P&IDs, equipment specifications, and detailed sizing calculations

Design and review system layouts, routing strategies, and capacity expansion plans
-
Ensure compliance with ASME BPE, cGMP/GMP, and applicable regulatory standards

Perform technical reviews and quality checks of complex engineering deliverables
Project & Team Leadership

Lead execution and workflow for process utilities and mechanical engineering teams

Manage discipline scope, schedules, and budgets across simple to highly complex projects

Partner with Project Managers on proposals, staffing plans, man-hour estimates, and schedules

Serve as a senior technical point of contact for clients and internal stakeholders
Advanced Project Execution

Oversee or participate in:

Utility room layout development
-
Pipe routing and space planning
-
Capacity planning and future-state strategies
-
Complex vendor package coordination
-
Risk assessments (HAZOPs, HCCPs, etc.)

3D model reviews and interdisciplinary coordination

Site walkdowns, field reporting, commissioning, and startup

Mentorship & Standards

Mentor and develop junior and mid-level engineers

Develop and deliver internal training related to process utilities design

Drive discipline, consistency, quality, and best practices across projects
Skills & ExperienceRequired
-
ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering

Minimum 15+ years of experience in process utilities or mechanical engineering

Proven experience leading projects in life sciences manufacturing environments

Deep expertise in designing and specifying high-purity and process utility systems

Strong working knowledge of ASME BPE and cGMP/GMP standards

Hands-on experience producing P&IDs, equipment specifications, and engineering calculations

Ability to manage multiple complex efforts and direct engineering teams

Strong written and verbal communication skills
Nice to Have

Professional Engineer (PE) license

Experience across pharmaceutical, biotech, laboratory, or advanced manufacturing facilities

Background within design firms, EPCs, or construction-integrated engineering teams
