POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Think Tank is seeking a Biological Aquarium Technician to support animal care, life support systems, medical procedures, and visitor services in Woods Hole, MA. Working as part of the aquarium team, this role assists in daily husbandry tasks, habitat maintenance, public engagement, and educational activities that advance NOAA's mission of ocean literacy.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare, monitor, and restock animal food and supplies.

  • Feed animals and document health indicators (injury, illness, stress, breeding, aggression, food intake).

  • Use biological lab and medical testing/sampling equipment as instructed.

  • Maintain habitats and exhibits, including cleaning and light repair work.

  • Support life support system monitoring and animal medical care.

  • Assist with visitor services: reservations, tours, school groups, VIPs, and special events.

  • Greet visitors, answer questions, and maintain educational materials.

  • Safely operate government vehicles as needed.

  • Keep back-of-house workspaces clean and organized.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: High School Diploma/GED plus 2 years of college coursework (12+ semester hours in biology, chemistry, animal husbandry, or related sciences).

  • Experience: Lab or fieldwork experience applying biological methods, processes, and procedures.

  • Knowledge of aquarium husbandry, life support systems, and basic fish biology.

  • Ability to follow instructions, adhere to procedures, and maintain a reliable schedule.

  • Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and lift light objects for extended periods.

  • Skilled in safe use of knives, food prep tools, and basic hand tools.

  • Familiarity with computers and ability to comply with cybersecurity protocols.

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills; able to interact positively with the public.

  • Valid driver's license; must qualify to operate a Government vehicle.
