Chemical Handler
Shift: 1st shift: 7-3:30pm (Mon-Fri)

Summary:
Accurately and efficiently assembles/tests a variety of moderate to semi-complex products to achieve customer quality and on-time delivery schedules. Performs job under direct supervision or with guidance from more experienced team members.
Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Cleans, etches, degreases and passivates components through acid and other chemicals baths.
  • Performs heat treat process and hardness analysis per internal standards, industry standards and customer requirements; maintains operational logs.
  • Performs dry film lubricant and epoxy operations.
  • May be required to assist with wire-on and pressure testing.
  • Performs moderately complex assembly/test functions utilizing mechanical skills, hand and power tools, mechanical/electronic tools, test equipment, and inspection measurement equipment in a manufacturing environment.
  • Sets up moderately complex test equipment on a variety of products to measure and record valve or system conformance to test specifications.
  • Performs evaluation and rework of conformity of components according to blueprints and work instructions.

Secondary Responsibilities/Non-Essential Functions:

  • May inspect assemblies that conform to product specifications. Assembles and tests to customer and/or industry standards
  • Maintains a satisfactory high level of performance while following appropriate procedures and observing all pertinent safety rules and requirements
  • Maintains appropriate knowledge and ability levels to efficiently perform all assigned work and utilizes this knowledge base to become proficient in new/unfamiliar assignments.
  • Assists in managing waste and scraps to minimize department expenses; develops cost reduction ideas to allow for continuous improvement in processes and procedures.
  • May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
  • Observes all company policies and procedures, including safety rules, and maintains a clean and orderly work area.
  • Actively participates in lean/continuous initiatives by identifying and providing suggestions on areas for improvement. Applies lean concepts and tools in work areas
  • Knowledge of P.P.E (personal protective equipment) and properly uses this equipment.

Qualifications (relevant experience, education and training):

  • Requires high school diploma or equivalent and 1-3 or more years’ related experience working in a manufacturing process environment.
  • Fully qualified in majority of operations and products and demonstrated ability to meet or exceed production and quality standards. Must be able to acquire Certified Operator stamp once eligible.
  • You must wear personal protective equipment, including respirator, steel toe boots, arc flash protective equipment, or other equipment as required by SPD safety guidelines. Must pass pulmonary function test if required.
  • Thorough knowledge of policies, procedures and systems in functional area.
  • Proficient in reading, understanding and following follow blueprints, engineering orders, specifications, and verbal instructions. Able to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Effectively applies lean/continuous improvement initiatives. Maintains and can interpret operational and quality metrics and actively contributes improvement suggestions.
  • Demonstrates effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as the ability to work in a team environment. Able to participate and provide input to engineering or other leaders on operational status or performance.
  • Interprets reports and uses job specific software applications (e.g. production control/tracking systems). Able to use employee self-service systems to access on-line information and use specialized automated systems (i.e., PA+, TORS, e-mail).
