Position Overview

The primary responsibilities of the Machine Operator II are to operate injection molding machines including inspection, assembly, and properly packaging. Record production and scrap information on P-charts.

Machine Operator II is responsible for the operation of multiple pieces of manufacturing equipment of moderate to difficult complexity.

Essential Job Function

  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to run complex jobs requiring auxiliary equipment and hand loads.
  • Demonstrated levels of proficiency and quality while maintaining or exceeding production standards.
  • May assist with training others.
  • Perform basic transactions in ERP software (Scrap, downtime, inventory lookup).
  • Ability to use a computer to self-train in procedures.
  • Help promote a safe and clean work environment within the organization. Supports 5S practices and conducts 5S audits.
  • Ability to setup workstations for new jobs including leveling and setting up scales, verifying labels and work orders, and ensuring the proper packaging at the workstation.
  • Identifying, reporting, and alerting leads/supervisors to quality issues such as flash, splay, contamination, etc.
  • Utilizes magnifying lamps, microscopes, go/no go gages, calipers, micrometers, select vision systems, and TAPPI charts to verify part compliance to customer specifications.
  • Basic understanding of engineering drawings and able to update the in-process QC records while running the job.
  • Accurately weigh, count, package finished goods for shipping according to printed instructions on the Work Order and Program Information Guide.
  • Performs operator functions in a clean room environment. Follow clean room procedures including gowning, ungowning, and transferring material into and out of the clean room.
  • Record production and scrap information on P-charts. Basic addition and subtraction and the ability to calculate percentages to understand and interpret scrap rates.
  • Ability to use small hand tools to trim parts of flash and gates.
  • Ability to visually inspect and identify defects in parts with and without the assistance of visual aids.
  • Attend mandatory training sessions.
  • Regular on-time attendance is essential.

Education, Skills, Training and Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a Machine Operator role within the plastic injection molding or associated industry or has gained proficiency in multiple competencies of more complex jobs.
  • Read and write English.
  • Clean Room experience preferred.
  • Analytical and numerical skills: ability to perform mathematical calculations (add, subtract, multiply and divide) in different units of measurement.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Understanding of plastic molded part defects.
