SCHEDULE: 40 hours, Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
(Flexibility required and based upon program needs. Expected to work some holidays and weekends) 100% onsite position.
Pays $ 66,372.80 annually DOE
Location: 444 Harrison Avenue, Boston, MA
The Culinary Instructor is an essential position in the event of weather or other emergencies and will work 100% on site, as instructed by supervisor.
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Culinary Instructor provides leadership, culinary workshops, hands-on instruction, and supervision for participants in the iCater Job Training Program, during weeks 1-8 of each 24-week cohort cycle. Serving over 100 adults annually across 6-7 cohorts per year, the program supports individuals from diverse backgrounds in gaining culinary, life, and job readiness skills. The Instructor plays a key role in motivating and preparing trainees for employment through structured training, job performance assessments, and coaching in both technical, interpersonal, and essential work skills. The Instructor will provide a supportive and engaging experiential program.
This role includes teaching kitchen safety, sanitation (ServSafe standards), knife skills, recipe preparation, nutrition, and industrial kitchen operations. The Instructor fosters a supportive, practical learning environment while collaborating closely with the Workforce Development and ICater Production and Operations teams, as well as internal and external case managers.

EDUCATION/TRAINING:
REQUIRED:
- Passion for excellence through teamwork, positive change, and communication

- Coaching approach rooted in compassion, integrity and respect
PREFERRED:
- Registered Dietitian or Licensed Nutritionist (Massachusetts)
- Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
- 2+ years of experience in culinary or nutrition
- Formal culinary training or equivalent preferred
- ServSafe Management Certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Experience working with individuals facing homelessness, mental health challenges, substance use and/or trauma
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and Motivational Interviewing

PREFERRED:
- 2+ years of experience as a culinary instructor, trainer or chef/cook
- Experience working with economically or socially disadvantaged populations
- Background in human services, particularly with individuals facing homelessness, substance use, domestic violence, or mental health challenges
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
REQUIRED:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel); able to operate software during training
- Strong computer skills, including data entry and documentation
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
