Position: Medical Technologist / Medical Laboratory Scientist – General Supervisor
We are a small, independent laboratory within a Rheumatology clinic seeking a full-time Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist to serve as General Supervisor under the direction of the Laboratory Director.
Position Overview
The Laboratory Supervisor will oversee daily laboratory operations, ensuring compliance with CLIA, CMS, and DPH requirements as well as established safety and quality standards. This role requires both technical expertise and leadership skills to guide a small team of technicians while maintaining efficiency, accuracy, and regulatory compliance.
This is a generalist position with primary responsibilities in:
● Clinical chemistry
● Hematology
● Synovial fluid analysis
● Manual differentials
Additional duties include developing and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs), performing venipuncture for sample collection, conducting assays, and ensuring timely and accurate reporting of results.
Key Responsibilities
● Supervise and support daily laboratory operations under the Laboratory Director
● Ensure adherence to quality assurance, quality control, and safety standards
● Write, review, and update SOPs in alignment with regulatory requirements
● Perform and oversee testing in chemistry, hematology, and synovial fluid analysis
● Conduct and review manual differentials with accuracy and efficiency
● Perform venipuncture and specimen collection as needed
● Prepare for and maintain readiness for regulatory inspections (CLIA, CMS, DPH)
● Train and mentor laboratory staff, fostering professional growth and development
Qualifications
● ASCP or AMT certification preferred, or certification-eligible within 6 months and certified within 1 year
● Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, or equivalent with at least 24 credit hours of academic science (minimum of 8 hours in biological sciences and 8 hours in chemical sciences)
● Minimum of 3 years of laboratory experience (including clinical rotations)
● Proficiency in manual differentials required
● Commitment to ongoing continuing education as required by certifying agency
● Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
