Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead and manage tax compliance, planning, and consulting for a diverse portfolio of clients. The Tax Manager will oversee preparation and review of federal and state tax returns, support tax provision and planning engagements, mentor staff, and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and firm policies. This role requires strong technical tax knowledge, proven leadership in public accounting or corporate tax departments, and hands-on experience with tax forms and software.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and review preparation of federal and state income tax returns for corporations (1120, 1120-S), partnerships (1065), individuals (1040), and tax-exempt organizations (990).
  • Manage tax compliance workflows and deadlines, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely filing.
  • Provide tax planning and consulting advice to clients, identifying opportunities for tax savings and recommending strategies to minimize risk.
  • Prepare and review tax research, memos, and supporting schedules; stay current on tax law changes and communicate impacts to clients and team members.
  • Coordinate and assist with tax audits and examinations, responding to information requests and negotiating resolutions as needed.
  • Oversee and mentor junior staff, including assigning work, conducting performance reviews, and providing training on technical and software skills.
  • Collaborate with auditors, finance, and client contacts to support financial statement tax disclosures and tax provision processes.
  • Utilize tax software and technology tools (e.g., Intuit ProSeries and other Intuit products) to improve efficiency and accuracy; drive adoption of best practices and process improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with firm quality standards, regulatory requirements, and internal controls; contribute to business development and client relationship management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Masters degree or advanced tax coursework preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 57 years of progressive tax experience in public accounting or corporate tax, with experience managing engagements and supervising staff.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing forms 1120, 1120-S, 1065, 1040, and 990.
  • Proficient with Intuit ProSeries and other Intuit tax products; experience with tax research tools and common accounting software.
  • Strong technical tax knowledge, including federal and state income tax regulations, tax provision, and tax planning strategies.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and client-facing skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, and commitment to delivering high-quality work.
