Position Summary
Boston Ship Repair is seeking skilled Outside Machinists to perform repair, maintenance, and overhaul work on a wide range of shipboard machinery. This role offers the opportunity to work on high-profile vessels in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Set up and operate machine shop equipment such as lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and grinders to fabricate and repair precision components.
• Machine parts to tight tolerances using manual equipment.
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and job specifications.
• Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
• Select proper tooling, materials, speeds, and feeds for machining operations.
• Support mechanical work including installation, maintenance, and repair of pumps, motors, compressors, and related equipment when machining work is not required.
• Assist with disassembly, inspection, and reassembly of mechanical systems and components.
• Perform alignments and basic troubleshooting of mechanical equipment.
• Maintain a safe work environment in both machine shop and field settings.
Qualifications

- 3–5 years of marine, industrial, or shipyard mechanic experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems and torque wrench applications.
- Skilled with hand tools, measuring instruments, and alignment equipment.
- Ability to work from technical drawings and follow detailed instructions.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs, work in confined spaces, and follow safety protocols.
