About the Role:
Aquila Technology is seeking a Systems Administrator to join its team in support of one of the nation's premier defense research organizations. The team is seeking an exceptional and dynamic IT Systems Administrator and Engineer to bolster our team in a blended role. This pivotal position involves the design, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of our unclassified and classified IT systems all while ensuring mission success, compliance, and security. The team tackles key problems in the convergence of cybersecurity and the physical world in an interdisciplinary research and development environment. The team focuses on developing new capabilities in the areas of cyber-physical techniques for the DoD, intelligence community, and federal agencies. Key technology development thrusts include unconventional methods of system exploitation, testbed development and introspection, and gaining cyber intelligence from novel sensors and signal analysis techniques.
Must Have
- Certification: CompTIA Security+ Certification
- Degree Level: Bachelor's Degree
- Strong Verbal and Written Communication
- 3 years - Powershell and Ansible (or other programming languages)
- 3 years - Understanding of bash and related scripting tools (shell and/or ansible)
- 3 years - Containerization (Docker, podman, etc.)
- 3 years - Familiarity with JIRA / Confluence
- 3 years - Ubuntu/Linux
- 1 years - Cloud Environment (AWS & Azure)
- 3 years - Hardware: Intel/AMD, Cisco, Sun/Oracle, Dell, Apple, EMC, NetApp
- 3 years - Linux system administration (RedHat + Ubuntu)
- 3 years - Systems Administration
Nice to Have
- Configure and manage Cisco/Juniper equipment (switches, routers and Call Managers)
- VMware Administration (ESX, ESXi/vSphere, vCenter, vMotion, DRS, etc.)
- Technologies including DNS, DHCP, Proxy and Load Balancing
- Virtualization Technologies (VMware, including ESXi and VCenter configuration)
Roles and Responsibilities
- Modernizing Linux build system lifecycle by automating existing processes using infrastructure as code.
- Listening to cyber research staff needs and designing IT systems solutions to meet those needs based on program requirements, security guidelines, and industry best practices.
- Work with security compliance team to develop creative solutions to meet the needs of users while remaining compliant with government policy.
- Evolve and maintain classified development networks by working to upgrade hardware and software.
- Develop and refine comprehensive system documentation, ensuring the creation of detailed diagrams and standard operating procedures.
Required Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of Linux and Windows Operating systems including administration, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Strong Linux command line skills
- Experience hardening systems to CMMC and STIG guidelines
- Experience building and maintaining mixed networks in isolated environments including setting up Active Directory, file shares, repository mirroring (e.g., APT, PyPI), collaboration services (e.g., Confluence, Jira.)
- Ability to automate several phases of the system's lifecycle including OS installation, security configuration, software installation, patching, and retirement
- Ability to research, diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and networking problems.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
- Knowledge of automation techniques and infrastructure-as-code approaches for deployment of systems and services with tools such as Ansible, PowerShell, Bash, and MDT/SCCM.
- Ability to troubleshoot common network and firewall issues with systems on corporate networks.
- Knowledge of setting up and running small networks (configuring Juniper/Cisco IOS for switching, routing, VLANs, etc.)
- Competency deploying containerized applications in standalone and cloud environments (Docker and Podman)
- Proficiency in implementing security best practices for encryption for data-at-rest and data-in-transit
- Create documentation on IT systems and procedures to satisfy certification, technical staff, and end users.
- Knowledge of physical and virtual network hardware and software component configurations.
- Managing systems with RedHat Satellite and Canonical Landscape
- Experience with local and server-based virtualization technologies (e.g., VMWare ESX, vSphere, etc.)
- Experience installing, configuring and operating network services such as DNS, DHCP, NFS, SSH, SAMBA, AD.
- Conduct network, system, and application vulnerability scanning, configuration assessment, and remediation.
- Excellent customer service skills and communication skills
- Ability to respond quickly and professionally to all types of users and all type of user requests, always with a positive attitude and demeanor.
- Willingness to help out with Desktop support issues.
Must Have Certification:
- DoD 8570/8140 IAT Level II, at a minimum Security+ certification (candidate will need to obtain within 6 months if they currently do not possess this certification)

Cell Phone & Internet Reimbursed up to $150 monthly to cover cell phone, data, and home internet expenses. Aquila Technology will reimburse team members who work from home ONLY for cell phone/mobile device fees for work-related communications and/or operations each month. Employees eligible for this benefit must work remote 2 days a week or more to qualify.
Buy Your Own Device (BYOD) - Team members are eligible for reimbursement of up to $1,500 every three (3) years for the purchase of electronic equipment used to access corporate services. To qualify for this benefit, employees must have completed a minimum of six (6) months of employment and must agree to and sign the Device Minimum Configuration Form prior to reimbursement. Electronic devices eligible under the Buy Your Own Device (BYOD) program are limited to cell phones, laptops, and tablets.
Work Location: Onsite. This role is 100% onsite - Must live within 100 miles from Lexington, MA
Clearance Level: Candidates must possess an active Secret clearance to be considered for this position. Must be a US Citizen to be considered.
Interview Process: Initial pre-screen with HM. If candidate advances to next round, will be larger group interview with group office and technical team members.
