Medical Assistants provides age appropriate and culturally sensitive care to students under the direct supervision of RNs, NPs, or physicians in an inclusive, collaborative, and integrated Center for Health and Wellness.
This is a full time, benefits eligible, hourly position with a hiring range of $19.92-$24.40 per hour.
Core Responsibilities:
- Supports providers by rooming patients, collecting health information, taking vital signs, and managing tasks for associated visit
- Maintains exam rooms by ordering required supplies and keeping exam rooms stocked for patient visits
- Administers required vaccines including MMR, Varicella, Tdap, hepatitis B, Meningitis ACWY, HPV, travel-associated vaccines, and subcutaneous and intramuscular injectable medications as prescribed and directed
- Conducts and interprets point of care testing including but not limited to urinalysis, urine pregnancy test, rapid strep test, Covid antigen test, hemoglobin and blood glucose
- Collects specimens (and instructs student in self-collection of specimens), utilizing appropriate technique for phlebotomy, ensuring patient safety in the event of syncopal episode
- Demonstrates proficiency in technical procedures including but not limited to EKG, nebulizer treatments, suture removal, ear irrigation, audiometry and wound care
- Completes timely documentation in the EHR according to best practices and Health Services policies
- Communicates professionally and effectively with students, colleagues, and collaborating care staff
Requirements
- Commitment to multicultural approaches to clinical care
- Commitment to addressing intersections of multiple identities and their related health outcomes
- Successful collaborator with cross-discipline colleagues to support positive outcomes
- Interest in the social, psychological, and physical developmental stages of college students
- CPR certification
- 2 years of experience in acute care, long term care, or clinical office setting
- Medical assistant certification or equivalent (e.g. LNA license with phlebotomy training, EMT license, etc.)
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Potential exposure to communicable diseases. May need to help patient onto and off of exam table. Functions in a fast-paced clinical environment. Able to provide care occasionally into the evening or on weekends, to support student outreach activities, for continuity of care and in management of an acute crisis. Cross-campus and cross-town travel may be required.
