Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity seeks a hands-on, results-driven, and community-minded ReStore Assistant Manager with a track record of leading high-performing retail teams, growing revenue, and optimizing operations and sales, as well as a commitment to engaging our community and dedicated volunteers to have an impact on Northern Vermont’s economy and access to affordable housing.


Our Habitat ReStores in Milton, Swanton, and Williston play a vital role in advancing Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity’s mission to build affordable housing. By accepting donations of new and gently used furniture, appliances, building materials, clothing, electronics, and home goods and selling items at discounted prices, our ReStores promote sustainability while increasing access to affordable resources for the community. Our dedicated teams of staff and volunteers work hard to maintain a constant flow of goods and offer a wide range of items for our retail visits. The proceeds of ReStore sales are then used to help fund the construction of permanently affordable housing for families and individuals across northwestern Vermont.

Department: ReStore, In-Person

FLSA Status: Full-Time Hourly, Non-Exempt

Schedule: Five days per week, including at least one weekend day.

Reports To: ReStore Manager

Supervises: All ReStore Staff


Summary:

The Assistant ReStore Manager is responsible for supporting the ReStore Manager in all aspects of day-to-day ReStore management, including operations, schedules, and the development of staff, volunteers, and assets to deliver a high-quality donor-to-customer experience. The Assistant Manager supports the ReStore Manager and steps in when needed. They oversee shifts and employees, and help with staff and volunteer training. The Assistant Manager ensures the Habitat ReStore raises awareness of GMHFH’s mission in the community.


Primary Responsibilities:

Operations and Store Management

  • Provide accurate accounting records of revenues and expenses and help the Store Manager prepare reports for the following: sales, expenses, outreach activities, and other areas as assigned.
  • Assist in the development of annual operating and sales budgets and assist the Store Manager with leading the store to hit sales goals.
  • Oversee the processing of donated items; manage the rotation of items and the disposal of donated items in a timely fashion. Processes include sorting, hanging, tagging, displaying, and disposing of donated items.
  • Ensure that all sales transactions (cash, credit cards) are handled correctly and in line with
  • GMHFH’s cash handling procedures.
  • Help prepare the store for scheduled and special deliveries of donated items and help keep the delivery schedule up to date via communication with the Procurement Manager.
  • Ensure all store areas are clean and safe and identify maintenance problems and pass that knowledge on to the Store Manager.
  • Oversee the effective merchandising of the floor, maximizing available display space and using inventory control and pricing to ensure appropriate turnover of merchandise.


Staff and Volunteer Management

  • Oversee shifts when the Store Manager is not present, including opening, closing, reconciling the cash drawer, assigning tasks, and managing staff time.
  • Demonstrate and train staff, concerning all policies and procedures, to provide outstanding service to customers, donors, volunteers, and others.
  • Understand and communicate to all staff positions the Key Performance Metrics and how they relate/contribute to positive customer experience and high-quality operations.
  • Ensure all personnel understand and can effectively communicate the Habitat ReStore, local affiliate, and HFH missions to members of the public.
  • Support volunteers and staff on the sales ?oor with customer con?icts, pricing issues, etc.
  • Supervise staff, monitor work performance, and provide ongoing feedback to improve
  • productivity and employee job satisfaction. Provide both positive and constructive feedback.
  • Assist the Store Manager in following employee performance guidelines and provide coaching and take notes as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all personnel matters.
  • Assist with training and onboarding new volunteers, explaining the importance of Habitat’s mission, and responding to any concerns or questions that supervisors can’t address.



Requirements:

Qualifications

Desired Education and Experience

  • 2-3 years of retail management experience.
  • Relevant college degree preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Able to communicate well with other staff and volunteers, lead a team, and resolve minor conflicts.
  • Dependable and able to stick to a schedule.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Excellent customer service skills to respond to any questions or concerns.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to assign tasks to others.
  • Flexibility to switch to different tasks quickly and the ability to prioritize well.


Compensation & Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19-$20 per hour. Benefits include 3 paid holidays, 1.5x paid holidays worked, paid time off totaling 3 weeks, a health reimbursement plan ($6,450.00/year), and a 20% staff discount to Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity ReStores.
