Direct Counsel is seeking an IP Biotechnology Patent Agent to join a leading national law firm with a premier Intellectual Property Department and a top-ranked Chemical, Biotechnology, and Pharmaceutical Practice Group. This position is available in the firm’s Boston, New York, San Diego, or Washington, DC office.
The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of experience in patent counseling, including significant work in patent preparation and prosecution. A strong scientific background in biological sciences, chemistry, or a related field is essential.
Key Responsibilities:

Draft and prosecute domestic and international patent applications in the biotechnology and life sciences sectors.

Provide strategic IP counseling and contribute to patent portfolio development.

Assist in the preparation of patentability, freedom-to-operate, and validity opinions.

Collaborate with clients ranging from emerging biotech companies to global pharmaceutical leaders.
Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Chemistry, or a related field is required.

Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Strong academic credentials and prior experience at a law firm preferred.

Excellent research, writing, and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Compensation & Benefits:

Salary range: $125,000 – $200,000, depending on experience, education, and other job-related factors.
