Systems Administrator – Ayer, MA

Join a Legacy. Build the Future

Catania Oils, a fourth-generation, family-owned business with 125 years of excellence in the edible oils industry, is looking for a passionate and driven Systems Administrator to join our team. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, love solving problems, and know how to bring out the best in people—this is your moment.

Our Core Values Drive Everything We Do

  • We Are Family – We treat every team member with respect and support, just like family.
  • Own It – We take responsibility, celebrate wins, and learn from challenges.
  • Job Well Done – We strive for excellence and take pride in delivering quality work.
  • Customer Focused – We go beyond expectations to ensure our customers succeed.
  • Authenticity at Our Core – We act with integrity and stay true to our values, even under pressure.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide Tier 2/3 technical support to end users via helpdesk tickets and phone support; act as an escalation point for complex issues.
  • Administer and support desktop, server, and network infrastructure (servers, endpoints, network devices, printers, related hardware/software).
  • Manage and maintain Active Directory; support Azure AD / Entra ID and Microsoft 365 services including Exchange, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams.
  • Install, configure, and maintain software for users and business systems.
  • Assist with monitoring system backups, network availability, and overall system health.
  • Use ServiceDesk Plus consistently for ticketing: maintain clear work notes, document troubleshooting and verification, and provide complete resolutions to strengthen the internal knowledge base.
  • Create, maintain, and continuously improve system, network, security, and operational documentation/runbooks.
  • Assist with ERP system–related tasks as needed.
  • Own backup/DR processes and outcomes—maintain current processes while identifying and implementing improvements (restore validation, recovery readiness, documentation, and resiliency).
  • Improve patch planning and execution with intentional scheduling, staged deployment, and validation to protect uptime in a production-driven environment.
  • Increase deployment speed while improving repeatability and consistency to reduce rework and follow-up tickets (standard baselines, exception control, post-deploy verification).
  • Support alert triage and investigations; tune policies/detections to reduce noise and improve actionability; create repeatable investigation and response runbooks.
  • Provide hands-on operational feedback (requirements, pilot feedback, rollout considerations, documentation/runbooks) as IT leadership evaluates consolidation to a unified endpoint security platform; broader SIEM adoption is planned longer-term (targeting 2027).
  • Participate in evaluating and recommending hardware/software solutions; contribute to standards and best practices.

Requirements:

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of progressive IT experience across systems administration and end-user support.
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts/services including DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, and VPNs.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Hands-on experience administering Active Directory, Azure AD, and Microsoft 365.
  • Experience automating administrative tasks using scripting/tools such as PowerShell and/or Power Automate.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; high attention to detail; able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team; strong internal customer service orientation.
  • Ability to lift to 50 lbs. (equipment moves, workstation setups, hardware installs).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (IT, Computer Science, or related), or equivalent experience.
  • Experience managing virtualization environments.
  • Experience with application deployment, patch management, backup, and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Familiarity with endpoint security tools and desktop imaging/modern deployment solutions.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems and supporting infrastructure.
  • Relevant certifications (preferred): Microsoft Windows Server/Azure/M365 and/or CompTIA Network+/Security+/Server+.

Work Location & Schedule

  • 100% on-site role.
  • Supports a 24/5 production operation.

After-Hours / On-Call Coverage

  • Participate in shared after-hours coverage for urgent, business-impacting incidents. Coverage is currently shared across the team and is being formalized to improve structure and accountability.
  • Expected to be reachable for emergencies outside normal hours except during approved PTO/vacation.

Why Catania Oils?

  • Be part of a company that values teamwork, respect, and continuous improvement
  • Work in a culture that blends tradition with innovation
  • Make a real impact in a company that’s committed to sustainability and quality.
  • We offer competitive pay and benefits.
