Job Summary

The Development Associate is a key member of the NAMI NH advancement team, responsible for supporting the infrastructure of our fundraising efforts. This role ensures that every donor, volunteer, and corporate partner feels valued through meticulous gift processing, professional stewardship, and logistical support for signature events. The ideal candidate is a mission-driven communicator who thrives on "the details" while keeping the mission improving the lives of Granite Staters affected by mental illness and suicide at the heart of their work.



Job Duties and Responsibilities

Donor Relations & Database Management

  • Serve as the primary administrator for the donor database, ensuring all records are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Process all charitable gifts (individual, corporate, grants, and third-party donation platforms) and generate personalized, timely acknowledgement letters and memorial/honorarium notifications within established timelines.
  • Create queries, exports, and reports as requested for mailing lists, email campaigns, fundraising appeals, events, and other fundraising initiatives.
  • Prepare regular fundraising reports and dashboards for the Director of Development and Board Advancement Committee.
  • Conduct prospect research to identify potential individual donors and corporate sponsors aligned with NAMI NHs mission.
  • Support the Director of Development by identifying opportunities for donor cultivation and stewardship.
  • Coordinate board member notes/phone calls to major donors.
  • Collaborate with program staff to maintain accurate volunteer records.
  • Maintain donor confidentiality and uphold the AFP Code of Ethics.

Event Support

  • Provide administrative and logistical support for NAMI NH signature fundraising events (NAMIWalks NH and This Is My Brave), including entering donations and sponsorships, processing gift acknowledgements, assisting with event-day logistics, supporting volunteers, and working with the development team to ensure an optimal guest/participant experience.
  • Support other fundraising events as needed (e.g. third-party fundraisers, house parties, leadership appreciation).
  • Assist with the NAMI NH Annual Meeting by providing logistical support as needed and ensuring membership is accurate and current in accordance with by-laws.

Membership Support

  • Complete monthly membership renewal notices.
  • Ensure the membership database (both internal and NAMI National) is current and accurate.

Administrative & Team Collaboration

  • Coordinate with the Finance Department to ensure monthly reconciliation of development records with bank deposits.
  • Convey mission in a meaningful and compelling way and represent NAMI NH through various forms of public engagement.
  • Work collaboratively with diverse groups within and outside of the organization.
  • Other tasks, duties, and responsibilities that are deemed necessary to enhance the functioning of NAMI New Hampshires development efforts as assigned by the Director of Development.

Physical and Travel

  • While performing the duties of this job, it is regularly required to talk or hear, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasional travel may be necessary.
  • It may be necessary to work some evenings and weekends.

Qualifications, Skills, and Knowledge

  • Associate or bachelors degree with a major in English, communications, journalism, marketing, business, or related field preferred.
  • 13 years of nonprofit development experience preferred. Familiarity with the New Hampshire philanthropic landscape is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and experience with CRM/Donor Management software (DonorPerfect and Salesforce preferred).
  • Familiarity with Canva and Constant Contact preferred.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, a warm professional demeanor, and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize work to meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • General knowledge and understanding of laws and other applicable guidelines and regulations related to charitable and planned giving.
  • A genuine passion for mental health advocacy and an understanding of the challenges faced by individuals and families affected by mental illness.
