Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and skilled Research Assistant with a strong background in molecular biology and assay development to support our research team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with cell culture, protein purification, and the development of molecular assays. This role is critical in helping to drive the early-stage research that underpins our core product development and will involve working closely with a small, interdisciplinary team of scientists and researchers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct molecular biology experiments, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, cloning, and gene expression analysis.
- Develop and optimize assays to support ongoing research projects, ensuring high sensitivity, specificity, and reproducibility.
- Maintain and troubleshoot mammalian and/or bacterial cell cultures, following sterile techniques and ensuring cell line viability and quality.
- Perform protein expression and purification tasks, including the use of chromatography, filtration, and centrifugation techniques.
- Prepare buffers, reagents, and media required for assays and cell culture work.
- Analyze experimental data, maintain accurate lab records, and present findings in team meetings.
- Collaborate with cross-functional team members to support the design, implementation, and optimization of research protocols.
- Contribute to lab maintenance, including ordering supplies, organizing samples, and maintaining equipment.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or a related field.
- Experience: 1-3 years of hands-on experience in a research setting, preferably within a biotech or life sciences startup.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in molecular biology techniques such as PCR, qPCR, cloning, and gel electrophoresis.
- Experience with mammalian and/or bacterial cell culture, including cell line maintenance, transfection, and viability assays.
- Knowledge of protein purification techniques (e.g., affinity, ion-exchange, size-exclusion chromatography) and experience using related equipment (e.g., AKTA).
- Familiarity with assay development, including ELISA, reporter assays, and fluorescence-based assays.
- Computer Skills: Proficient in data analysis software (e.g., Excel, GraphPad Prism) and able to use standard lab information management systems.
- Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work both independently and in a team.
