Job DescriptionSalary: $95,000 - $105,000

Position Location: Hampton, VA - Joint Base Langley-Eustis (JBLE)


This position and the associated duties and responsibilities are contingent upon securing the necessary funding and formal contract award.

Makai is an NHO 8(a) that specializes in C5ISR services, DoD systems integration, business analytics, and the modernization of wired and wireless government networks. Makai provides professional services and technical expertise in mobile/edge computing (deployable 5G), systems engineering, cybersecurity, data migration and storage, software development (DevSecOps), and process improvement.


Makai is seeking an Information / Cybersecurity Analyst to support Pacific Air Forces (PACAF) Air Combat Command (ACC). This role will work on the operational, functional and mission-assurance aspects of an integrated information security program. The individual will interpret Department of War and other federal regulations for information security processes, implement established security policies and techniques, and adjust for varying levels of security complexity, conditions or circumstances requiring modification of standard approaches.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Execute and enforce compliance with operational, functional and mission assurance components of an integrated information security program aligned with PACAF/ACC objectives
  • Interpret DoD and federal regulations, policies, practices and procedures pertaining to information security, and apply them appropriately within the organization
  • Implement established security policies, practices, procedures and techniques across organization segments that differ in kind and level of security, complexity, conditions or circumstances requiring adjustment or modification of standard approaches
  • Assist with risk assessments, vulnerability scans, system audits, configuration reviews, security controls verification, and continuous monitoring of information systems
  • Support the development and maintenance of documentation including System Security Plans (SSPs), Plans of Action & Milestones (POA&Ms), security assessment reports, accreditation packages and change-management impact analyses
  • Work collaboratively with system owners, program managers, network operations, and other stakeholders to ensure information system compliance, security posture and aligned mission readiness
  • Support incident response activities, security event monitoring, and escalation processes as required
  • Maintain awareness of cyber threat landscape, emerging tools and techniques, DoD cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., RMF, STIGs, DISA guidance) and ensure timely incorporation of relevant updates into procedures and controls
  • Participate in training and awareness initiatives, mentor newer staff (as applicable) and support program-wide initiatives to enhance cybersecurity maturity


Degree/Education and Training Requirements

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited institution in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)


Experience


Required:

  • 1-4 years of hands-on experience in cybersecurity, information assurance or related role supporting the Department of War / large organizations (or equivalent entry level experience)
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Department of War cybersecurity policies, frameworks and processes (e.g. RMF, DISA, STIGs, vulnerability management, secure configuration baselines)
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication (both verbal and written) skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn new planning, collaboration or cybersecurity tools/systems


Preferred:

  • Prior military or Department of War experience, especially in Air Force or joint environment
  • Familiarity with network and system scanning tools (e.g. ACAS, Nessus), endpoint security solutions (e.g. HBSS), and security information and event management (SIEM) platforms
  • Experience with change management processes, system authorization packages, and continuous monitoring in a DoD environment
  • Certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or equivalent IAM/IAT certifications


WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work will be performed inside a large facility. An inside environment may be a cubicle (considerations: close quarters, low to moderate noise, bright or dim lighting).
  • Work assignments vary based on client requirements.
  • Sitting at desk. Phone use and PC or laptop. Filing required. May require lifting and carrying boxes of supplies or files up to 25 lbs. Extended periods of sitting while on PC/laptop or phone.
  • General office equipment, which includes telephone, fax machine, copier, PC/laptop, and other miscellaneous office equipment.
  • Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is mandatory.
  • You may be asked to continue performance during inclement weather or other conditions when others are not permitted to work
  • No regular travel in support of this contract, however ad-hoc travel may be required
  • Candidates must exhibit professional behavior that promotes teamwork, fosters cooperation, and enhances productivity in the workplace. Must be well organized with the ability to coordinate, prioritize and execute multiple tasks simultaneously in a high-pressure environment.Ability to communicate verbally andin writing to work effectively with a variety of government, military and contractor personnel at all levels.
  • Candidates must be able to interface effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Grooming and dress is usually business casual, but dependent on clients standards. Must not pose a safety hazard to employees working in the same general area.

Estimated Compensation

  • $95,000 - $105,000

Individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including but not limited to employee's experience, skills, education, industry, location, company size, and overall market demand.
