Job DescriptionPosition: Physician - Hematology/Oncology

Recruitment/Relocation Incentive: A sign-on bonus may be available for eligible candidates.

Compensation: We offer a competitive salary along with an annual performance bonus and regular salary increases.

Overview of Responsibilities

As a staff physician in the hematology/oncology department, you will be expected to maintain a high level of professional, technical, and administrative knowledge to effectively address the clinical needs of patients ranging from young adults to the elderly. Compliance with credentialing, privileging, and other monitoring requirements is essential. You will uphold high clinical standards in decision-making and continuously work to enhance your teaching abilities to mentor fellows, residents, and medical students. Additionally, you will oversee the work of physician assistants and nurse practitioners within the section, ensuring adherence to current medical record documentation standards and residency supervision protocols.

Scope of Practice

Your responsibilities will contribute significantly to delivering quality patient care. The hematology/oncology physician will:

  • Provide care and treatment for patients referred to the section, both in inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Administer outpatient chemotherapy and immunotherapy in our on-site infusion suite, managing any related reactions.
  • Occasionally perform bone marrow aspirations and biopsies, primarily conducted by physician assistants or nurse practitioners, while supervising fellows in these procedures.

Clinical Competence

In your role, you will demonstrate the following:

  • Knowledge and skills in conducting examinations, diagnosing conditions, managing patient care, and providing education.
  • Ability to maintain a low complication rate in procedures performed.
  • Competence in recognizing the functional independence of patients and encouraging their engagement during treatment sessions.

Supervision of Fellows and Residents

Your teaching responsibilities will include:

  • Providing high-quality educational experiences through direct patient care in clinics, inpatient wards, ICUs, and the Oncology Section.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of teaching through reports, evaluations, and performance improvement assessments.
  • Supervising house staff and effectively teaching rotating house staff in patient wards while serving as attending physician.
  • Precepting medical students during clerkship programs.

Work Schedule

The standard work hours are from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.

  • M.D. or D.O. degree
  • Full and unrestricted medical license to practice in any state
  • Board Certification in Hematology/Oncology
