Mercy Centre is a program of Catholic Charities located in West Boylston, Massachusetts. Founded by the Sisters of Mercy and Catholic Charities in the 1960s, the program serves adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, ages eighteen and over, in four different programs from the Worcester County extended area. The Adult Services programs have been in existence for about sixty years. We are seeking Day Habilitation Direct Care Worker to join our team!

Reports To: Day Habilitation Manager

Status: Non-Exempt

Primary Responsibilities: Provide quality care, independence and services for individuals in the program. Be responsible for implementing instructional activities in the facility and in the community. Provide instruction, guidance, supervision, documentation and role modeling.

Essential Duties:

  • Implement skills activities in relation to identified curriculum
  • Develop an understanding of the individual needs, goals and level of required assistance of all to ensure safety
  • Collect data related to goals and objectives
  • Provide individualized ADL supports
  • Maintains individual’s confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential
  • Complete necessary reports (i.e. incident reports, seizure reports, DPPC, etc.) and any other necessary documentation to ensure compliance with agency standards, DDS regulations, Mass Health or program policies in coordination with the Day Habilitation Manager
  • Provide community access for individuals in either agency vehicle or personal vehicle
  • Must represent Mercy Centre professionally when out in the community
  • Participate in regular staff meetings, in-service training and other staff development
  • Help facilitate and maintain a positive work environment
  • Maintain required acceptable standards and procedure of the agency
  • Work cooperatively with the entire staff
  • Provide exemplary role modeling behaviors
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • One to two years’ experience in human services or related field, preferred

Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to present oneself professionally and pragmatically to program participants, families, guardians, the business community and representatives from other agencies
  • Ability to read, write and speak English fluently and to communicate effectively
  • Ability to interact positively with program and agency staff
  • Ability to transport program participants in personal vehicle, if necessary
  • Must be able to be consistent in implementing daily routine
  • Ability to work independently for long periods of time and under the guidance of a supervisor or designee

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Adult CPR and First aid. Must obtain within three months of hire and renew annually thereafter and maintain throughout employment.
  • Must submit to a Criminal Offenders Record Information (CORI) request, a Sexual Offender Registry Information (SORI) request, a clear OIG (Office of Inspector General) check and clear fingerprinting check, which shows no offenses and maintain throughout employment
  • Must complete a TB Risk Assessment, prior to hire and maintain throughout employment
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license for the State of Massachusetts and maintain throughout employment. Must possess and maintain vehicle registration and appropriate insurance coverage throughout employment.

Physical/Mental Requirements:

  • Must be able to communicate clearly
  • Normal range of vision, hearing and mobility is required with or without correction
  • Must demonstrate ability to work effectively within emotionally demanding situations
  • Must be able to observe potentially distressing behaviors, interactions between clients and relay/document those observations to appropriate staff
  • Able to understand and carry out directions
  • Must participate in any training required for improved job performance and learning/professional development as needed
