Reports To: Production Supervisor

Job Summary:

The Degator/Operator is responsible for inspecting, trimming, and finishing molded parts by removing excess material (flash, burrs, or gates) using hand tools, blades, or mechanical equipment. This role ensures that all products meet company quality and safety standards before packaging or moving to the next stage of production.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Remove flash, gates, runners, or other unwanted material from molded or machined parts using knives, cutters, grinders, or other tools.
  • Inspect parts for quality defects and ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Follow written work instructions, blueprints, or verbal directions to complete assigned tasks.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with 5S and safety standards.
  • Use hand tools, air tools, or specialized machines for trimming and finishing.
  • Count and package completed parts for shipping or further processing.
  • Record production data and report any issues with materials, tools, or equipment.
  • Basic machine operation when required.
  • Communicate with supervisors or quality assurance regarding part defects or production concerns.
  • Follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate PPE.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous experience in manufacturing or part finishing preferred but not required.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
  • Basic math and measurement skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Ability to lift up to 25–50 pounds, depending on the product.

Work Environment:

  • Exposure to manufacturing noise, dust, and materials.
  • May work with sharp tools or machinery.
  • Required to wear PPE such as gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
