Information Technology Leadership Fellow

Location: Boston, Massachusetts
Position Type: Leadership Fellowship
Schedule: Flexible — approximately 2–7 hours per week
Work Arrangement: Remote/Hybrid with occasional Boston-based activities
Cohort: Fall 2026
Compensation: Unpaid Leadership Fellowship / Academic Credit Eligible

Overview

RISE Foundation is seeking a motivated, technology-focused, and emerging leader to serve as an Information Technology Leadership Fellow.

This fellowship is designed for students and emerging professionals interested in information technology, cybersecurity, systems administration, cloud technology, data management, software, and nonprofit technology operations.

The Fellow will work alongside RISE Foundation's IT leadership and organizational leadership to support technology initiatives and help develop the systems and infrastructure needed to support a growing nonprofit.

Position Description

The IT Leadership Fellow will assist with technology projects while gaining practical experience in nonprofit IT operations, cybersecurity, technology strategy, systems management, and digital transformation.

The Fellow may work on projects involving technology support, user access, documentation, cybersecurity awareness, software systems, data management, and technology planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day IT initiatives and technology projects.
  • Assist with user account and access management.
  • Help maintain technology documentation and internal procedures.
  • Support onboarding and technology orientation for staff and volunteers.
  • Assist with troubleshooting common technology issues.
  • Research technology solutions and software for organizational needs.
  • Assist with cybersecurity awareness initiatives.
  • Support data organization and technology-related compliance projects.
  • Help maintain an inventory of organizational technology assets and systems.
  • Assist with testing software, platforms, and digital tools.
  • Support collaboration and productivity platforms.
  • Document technical processes and create user guides.
  • Assist with website, digital platform, or systems projects as appropriate.
  • Research emerging technologies that may improve nonprofit operations.
  • Support IT leadership with special projects and organizational initiatives.

Leadership Opportunities

Qualifications

Required

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a college, university, graduate program, or professional program.
  • Strong interest in information technology or a related field.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to learn new technology quickly.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Professionalism and reliability.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Commitment to the mission of RISE Foundation.

Preferred

  • Coursework or experience in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Slack, Zoom, or similar platforms.
  • Basic knowledge of cybersecurity principles.
  • Experience with troubleshooting or technical support.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, databases, networking, or systems administration.
  • Previous IT, technology, volunteer, leadership, or internship experience.

Previous professional IT experience is not required.

Schedule

The fellowship requires approximately 2–7 hours per week with a flexible schedule designed to accommodate academic, employment, and personal commitments.
