Job DescriptionJob DescriptionChief Estimator / Preconstruction Manager (Commercial Drywall Construction)

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Estimator / Preconstruction Manager to lead estimating operations for a high-volume commercial construction firm. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the full preconstruction process, mentoring junior estimators, and driving profitable project acquisition through accurate and strategic bidding.

This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong technical estimating skills, software proficiency, and the ability to manage people and processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all estimating and preconstruction efforts for commercial projects ranging from small scopes to $10M+

  • Oversee, review, and validate estimates prepared by junior estimators

  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and pricing using OST / QuickBid software

  • Analyze drawings, specifications, and bid documents to identify risks and opportunities

  • Develop bid strategies focused on margin, accuracy, and long-term client relationships

  • Collaborate with operations and leadership to ensure smooth handoff from preconstruction to execution

  • Maintain bid schedules and ensure timely, complete submissions

  • Support business development through relationship-driven estimating (not purely low-bid)

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years of commercial estimating experience (more preferred)

  • Mandatory experience with OST / QuickBid

  • Proven experience estimating commercial construction projects up to $10M

  • Prior experience leading or mentoring estimators is strongly preferred

  • Strong understanding of construction documents, scopes, and cost drivers

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

  • Must be willing to work 100% in-office
