Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Bookkeeper to join our accounting firm. The Bookkeeper will oversee and manage all aspects of client accounting functions, ensuring accuracy and efficiency. This role requires advanced knowledge of accounting principles, leadership skills, and the ability to handle complex financial reporting, reconciliation tasks, and manage the firm’s own financials.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Transactions Oversight:

  • Oversee the recording of financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations for multiple clients.
  • Ensure accurate and timely journal entries and general ledger maintenance.
  • Review and reconcile bank and credit card statements, ensuring discrepancies are resolved swiftly.

Advanced Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare and analyze complex monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements for clients.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to clients based on financial analysis to improve their financial position.
  • Lead year-end closing processes and work with clients and auditors to prepare for tax filings.

Firm’s Financial Management:

  • Manage and prepare the firm’s own financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
  • Oversee the firm’s budgeting and forecasting processes, ensuring alignment with business goals and financial targets.
  • Track firm expenses and revenue, ensuring that internal financial records are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Assist in preparing internal reports for management, providing key insights on financial health and performance.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable financial regulations and maintain proper internal controls.

Payroll & Tax Compliance:

  • Oversee payroll processing for clients, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws.
  • Prepare and review sales tax returns, ensuring timely submission and compliance with tax regulations.
  • Stay updated on tax law changes and ensure client businesses remain compliant.

Client Relationship Management:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for key client accounts, addressing inquiries, providing advice, and ensuring satisfaction.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, understanding their financial needs and providing proactive guidance.
  • Assist in client consultations regarding financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting.

Team Leadership & Mentorship:

  • Provide training and support for day-to-day tasks that other staff members may request assistance with.
  • Help develop and streamline internal processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.

Additional Support & Project Management:

  • Assist senior accountants and the management team with special projects, audits, and any other ad-hoc requests.
  • Ensure all deadlines are met and client expectations are exceeded.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred).
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in bookkeeping, with at least 2 years in a senior or supervisory role.
  • Experience working in an accounting firm or managing multiple client accounts.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, Xero, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Advanced understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and tax compliance.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple client accounts and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and lead a team effectively.

Preferred Skills:

  • Certification in bookkeeping (such as CPAs, CBs, or similar) is highly desirable.
  • Experience with project management and process improvement.
  • In-depth knowledge of payroll systems and tax regulations.
  • Experience managing internal financials for a business or firm.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $36.00 - $41.00 per hour, with overtime eligibility in accordance with applicable federal and state law
