Who We AreWindy Hill School, Colby-Sawyer College’s Early Childhood Lab School is a living, breathing laboratory for learning — for the children in our care, the college students studying alongside them, and the educators who guide them all. Rooted in the Reggio Emilia philosophy and the wonder of the natural world, we believe children are capable, curious, and full of ideas worth listening to.

We are seeking an extraordinary individual — someone who brings both organizational brilliance and a warm, child-centered heart — to serve as our Administrative Assistant, Registrar, and Team Teacher. This is a unique, multi-faceted role for a person who thrives in a dynamic, purpose-driven environment.

Duties

The RoleThis position sits at the beautiful intersection of administration and education. You will be the connective tissue of our school community — keeping operations running with grace and precision while also stepping into the classroom as a thoughtful support teacher, and as team teacher in our 9 week summer program. No two days look exactly alike, and that is the magic of it.
Key ResponsibilitiesAdministrative Leadership

  • Serve as the first point of contact for prospective and enrolled families — welcoming all with warmth and professionalism
  • Oversee all enrollment and registration processes from inquiry through matriculation, maintaining accurate and up-to-date student records
  • Manage waitlists, application materials, enrollment agreements, and family communication with care and confidentiality
  • Coordinate scheduling, calendars, and communications for the Director and teaching staff
  • Prepare and maintain documentation required for licensing, accreditation, and compliance with state and college regulations
  • Assist with billing, tuition tracking, and coordination with the college's business office
  • Coordinate events such as family orientation nights, open houses, and community gatherings

Registrar Functions

  • Maintain compliant student files including health records, emergency contacts, immunization documentation, and enrollment records
  • Coordinate with families to ensure all required documentation is complete and current
  • Track enrollment data and generate reports to support program evaluation and accreditation
  • Ensure confidentiality, HIPPA and FERPA compliance in all record-keeping practices

Support Teacher

  • Step into classrooms as a support teacher, maintaining the spirit and integrity of Reggio Emilia-inspired practice
  • Serve as team teacher in extended day program during academic year and team teacher in 9 week summer program
  • Observe children with curiosity and document learning through photos, notes, and narrative — contributing to pedagogical documentation
  • Support outdoor and nature-based learning experiences, bringing enthusiasm for the living world into daily routines
  • Build authentic, trusting relationships with children through unhurried presence and genuine curiosity about their ideas
  • Collaborate with lead teachers to plan and prepare materials that invite exploration and provocation
  • Assist with student teacher supervision and mentoring as a model practitioner
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and reflection as an engaged member of the teaching community

Requirements

Required

  • Associate's degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or a related field (Bachelor's preferred)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in an early childhood setting, ideally in a lab school, Reggio-inspired, or nature-based program
  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities gracefully
  • Proficiency with office software (Microsoft Office) and comfort learning new systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills — warm, professional, and clear
  • Demonstrated commitment to culturally responsive, equitable early childhood practice
  • Must meet state licensing requirements for early childhood staff (background check, health clearances, first aid CPR certification)

Nice To Haves

Who You AreYou are the kind of person who finds equal joy in a perfectly organized enrollment spreadsheet and a child's delight at discovering a worm after rain. You bring calm to busy moments, creativity to problem-solving, and genuine care to every interaction — with families, children, colleagues, and college students alike.
You believe in the power of documentation, in the rights of children to be heard, and in the idea that a school's administrative backbone is just as important as its pedagogy. You are resourceful, proactive, flexible, and deeply committed to building community.

Preferred

  • Experience with student information or registration systems
  • Familiarity with Reggio Emilia philosophy, documentation practices, and emergent curriculum
  • Background in nature-based education, forest school, or outdoor learning environments
  • Experience working in a college or university lab school setting

Benefits

What We Offer

  • A collaborative, mission-driven team that genuinely loves the work
  • A beautiful, nature-rich learning environment designed with children — and adults — in mind
  • Access to college professional development, library resources, and continuing education benefits
  • Generous paid leave, holidays aligned with the academic calendar, and comprehensive health benefits
  • A culture of reflection, creativity, and mutual respect
  • The rare opportunity to hold both administrative and pedagogical roles in a dynamic community
