The Primary Care Service Line Manager serves as a physician leader, overseeing both clinical and administrative functions of Primary Care services within our organization. This role encompasses management of four Community Based Outpatient Centers (CBOCs) and is responsible for ensuring patient access to high-quality, cost-effective care. While the position is heavily administrative, it also requires clinical involvement to maintain expertise.
Key Responsibilities

Oversee all facets of patient care in Primary Care, ensuring timely access, efficiency, effectiveness, and appropriateness of treatments provided by physicians, advanced practice providers, and support staff.

Guarantee that all physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants under the Primary Care Service Line Manager's supervision deliver quality care and meet productivity standards.

Ensure the achievement of patient survey metrics related to Primary Care, such as SAIL.

Collaborate with Nursing and Administrative leadership to foster high-functioning Patient Aligned Care Teams (PACT).

Work in partnership with managers from Medical, Surgical, and other clinical service lines.

Provide recommendations to the Professional Standards Board (PSB) regarding classification, appointments, and clinical privileges.

Conduct Focused and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations to ensure the ongoing competence of Primary Care providers with clinical privileges.

Participate in the recruitment process, including interviews, selection, hiring, and orientation of new service line providers.

Offer independent advice to the Chief of Staff on innovative patient care services to uphold best practices and excellence across the service line.

Guide Primary Care staff on the use of equipment technology, policies, and procedures established by our organization.

Monitor VHA productivity goals and support Primary Care clinicians in meeting these standards.

Ensure compliance with VHA patient access goals and mentor clinicians to achieve these objectives.

Facilitate conflict resolution among staff members.

Chair and participate in committees and task forces, communicating recommendations and implications to service line staff.

Support the educational and research initiatives of the service line.

Assist in implementing the Medical Center Bylaws and Rules and Regulations.

Prepare reports related to Primary Care as mandated by VA regulations, station policies, and Medical Executive Committee recommendations.

Engage in peer reviews and contribute to the Peer Review Committee.

Document patient care accurately and promptly in the electronic medical record (Computerized Patient Record System - CPRS) for each patient interaction.

Act as the attending physician for patient care within the scope of granted privileges.
Work Schedule
The work schedule is Monday through Friday at the Manchester VAMC, with some travel expected to the New Hampshire CBOCs.
