This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of bluebird bio. We are currently looking for a Senior/Director, IT Applications in the United States.
This leadership role focuses on overseeing enterprise and R&D IT application systems across multiple functions including Quality, Regulatory, Clinical, Manufacturing, and General & Administrative areas. You will provide strategic direction and operational management for application architecture, budget oversight, and vendor relationships, ensuring alignment with corporate goals. This position offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, partnering closely with business teams to build scalable IT capabilities that support critical processes and compliance requirements. It is a hybrid role based in Somerville, Massachusetts, designed for a seasoned IT professional passionate about life sciences and technology innovation.
Accountabilities:
- Develop user requirements, test plans, and criteria for selecting commercial software and technology solutions.
- Create and maintain SOPs and documentation for all systems and processes.
- Manage relationships with application vendors, SaaS providers, and hosting partners.
- Develop strategic roadmaps and budgets that support business growth and changing needs.
- Design and test disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
- Implement and maintain policies and procedures for computer system validation in compliance with FDA and industry standards.
- Provide end-user training on the expanding portfolio of applications and tools.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 10 years’ IT systems experience and at least 6 years in management roles.
- Experience in life sciences and biotech startup environments.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, demonstrating analytical thinking, problem-solving, and sound judgment.
- Self-motivated with strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
- Experience supporting a user base of 200+ employees in a dynamic IT team.
- Knowledge of GxP system implementation and CFR 21 Part 11 compliance.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Demonstrated experience managing budgets effectively.
