Outpatient Behavioral Health


An established healthcare system in the Middlebury, Vermont area is seeking a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join its outpatient behavioral health clinic. This is a full-time, day-shift position focused on providing comprehensive psychiatric care in a structured outpatient setting. This role offers the opportunity to work with a diverse patient population across the continuum of mental health care, including medication management, psychotherapy, and coordinated treatment planning. You will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team supporting individuals recovering from mental illness, with access to both outpatient and inpatient resources when needed.


Job Responsibilities

  • Provide psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, and ongoing medication management for outpatient behavioral health patients
  • Conduct and support psychotherapy sessions and participate in group therapy programs as appropriate
  • Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and care teams to develop and adjust individualized treatment plans
  • Monitor patient progress, response to treatment, and adjust care plans accordingly
  • Support relapse prevention strategies and continuity of care across outpatient and inpatient services
  • Engage with patients and families to provide education, support, and care coordination
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation


Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Nursing (NP) or completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in behavioral health or a related specialty
  • Active or eligible Vermont licensure
  • Board certification (ANCC or equivalent for NP; NCCPA for PA)
  • Strong psychiatric assessment and clinical decision-making skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary behavioral health team
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
