Job Description
The Panther Group is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Cost Engineer to join our manufacturing team. This role is responsible for developing accurate and comprehensive cost estimates, analyzing manufacturing variances, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure financial targets are aligned with production goals. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cost analysis, manufacturing processes, and ERP systems, with the ability to drive cost optimization and support strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
Cost Estimation & Analysis
- Analyze engineering drawings, project blueprints, technical specifications, and vendor quotes to develop detailed and phase-specific cost estimates.
- Convert product and component specifications into accurate cost projections for both new and existing products.
- Apply consistent, validated cost methodologies to maintain accurate and reliable cost data across all stages of production.
Standard Cost Reporting
- Prepare and present detailed standard cost reports to stakeholders including sales teams, project managers, finance leaders, and executive management.
- Conduct monthly reviews of manufacturing variance reports; identify root causes and work with relevant departments to address discrepancies.
Product Data & Change Management
- Maintain and update product data used in purchasing and manufacturing processes.
- Create and manage Bills of Materials (BOMs), Process Routings, and Purchasing Specifications using established change management protocols.
Collaboration & Cross-Functional Support
- Work closely with sales, engineering, procurement, and operations teams to ensure alignment between project scope, cost targets, and financial goals.
- Serve as a cost subject matter expert during new product development and production planning meetings.
Cost Optimization & Improvement Initiatives
- Identify and quantify cost risks and uncertainties to ensure accurate costing models.
- Analyze cost drivers and perform variance analysis to uncover inefficiencies and recommend process improvements.
- Proactively identify opportunities for cost reduction through sourcing, design, or manufacturing process changes.
- Support the development and improvement of cost monitoring and reporting systems to provide clear visibility into trends and variances.
Special Projects
- Participate in or lead special projects to support operational improvements, customer initiatives, or strategic business goals as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5–7 years of relevant experience in cost engineering or manufacturing cost analysis.
- Equivalent combinations of education and hands-on experience will be considered.
Technical Skills
- Proficient in ERP systems (Syteline preferred, but similar systems acceptable).
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.
- Familiarity with SolidWorks, Outlook, and Microsoft Project.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes including:
- Metal stamping
- Heat treating
- Plating
- Welding
- Mechanical assembly
- CNC machining
