Job Description

Job DescriptionThe Meadowbrook School of Weston, a pre-kindergarten through 8th grade school located seven miles west of Boston, seeks a middle school English educator to join our faculty for the 2025-2026 school year.

We seek a candidate who believes the middle school years are essential and who wholeheartedly desires to teach, advise, and learn from middle school students. Teachers with coaching experience are encouraged to apply. At Meadowbrook, smart, passionate people join together in an expansive learning environment with rigorous academics and innovative curricula to inspire, challenge, and empower students to achieve at the highest level, connect deeply with a diverse community, and courageously create change.

The English department is dynamic and collegial, working collaboratively, meeting together weekly, and devoted to the close study of literature and writing. Some of the texts we have studied as a part of the middle school English curriculum include: Sandras Cisneros’s The House on Mango Street, William Golding's Lord of the Flies, Mildred Taylor’s Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, a graphic novel adaptation of Anne Frank’s diary, Elie Wiesel’s Night, Linda Sue Park’s A Long Walk to Water, and George Orwell’s Animal Farm. In addition, we teach a Shakespeare play in each grade. Our current sequence is A Midsummer Night’s Dream in sixth-grade, Macbeth in seventh-grade, and the teacher's choice of a play in eighth-grade. We also teach a poetry unit in each grade. The skills we seek to cultivate in students include: analytical writing, active reading, Harkness-style discussion, and creative writing in a range of genres.

A successful candidate will be an educator who is growth-minded and values inquiry, project-based learning, innovation, and collaboration amongst students and faculty. We seek an educator with a demonstrated background
or interest in cultural competency, curriculum development, and technology integration.
We strongly encourage applications from people of color, LGBTQ educators, or educators from communities that are historically underrepresented in independent schools. We are committed to an inclusive school experience for all those who come to work at Meadowbrook.
Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required; a master's degree is preferred
  • Familiarity with classroom uses of technology is a plus
  • Experience writing recommendations for secondary school is preferred but not required
  • Ability to work collaboratively

Annualized salary for faculty is determined according to a step scale commensurate with experience. Meadowbrook offers competitive salaries and a generous benefits package, including medical, dental and vision insurance plans, a school-matched retirement plan and paid time off. Employees must be authorized to work in the United States.

Meadowbrook is an equal opportunity employer. We consider applicants for all positions without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, disability, sexual orientation, familial or marital status, or any other characteristic protected from discrimination under state or federal law.
