Position Overview:
The SPD/OR Liaison plays a crucial role in managing and coordinating both clinical and administrative functions for a specific specialty surgical service. This position involves assisting in the formulation, recommendation, and execution of internal standards, policies, and procedures aimed at enhancing the quality and cost-effectiveness of patient care and sterile processing. The Liaison will also engage in various hospital, departmental, and multidisciplinary initiatives, committees, and special projects.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist Operating Room (OR) personnel by ensuring instrument kits are prepared prior to the start of surgeries.
- Participate in daily meetings with OR Specialty Coordinators to anticipate instrument requirements up to five days ahead.
- Oversee daily surgical case flow and relay urgent or additional instrument requests to the SPD, addressing any issues that arise.
- Perform daily audits of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including case cart and kit evaluations, room inspections, and post-case assessments.
- Evaluate KPI data to detect trends and operational challenges within the OR and Sterile Processing Department (SPD).
- Facilitate communication and planning for priority instruments and turnaround times, updating the surgical team on any delays.
- Respond swiftly to inquiries from the surgical team regarding instrumentation issues or urgent requirements.
- Clean and process equipment according to manufacturer guidelines and safety protocols.
- Ensure that instrumentation is processed and ready for next-day, on-call, or weekend surgeries.
- Assist with documentation, kit updates, pick-list modifications, and maintaining accurate instrument count sheets in collaboration with coordinators and physicians.
Minimum Qualifications: Education:
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Associate’s Degree is preferred.
- Required field of study: Sterile Processing.
- Preferred fields of study: Sterile Processing and Surgical Technology.
Experience:
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in SPD is required.
- 5 years of experience in SPD is preferred.
Licensure/Certifications:
- Certification as an SPD Technician from a nationally recognized accreditation body is required.
- Preferred certifications include SPD Leadership, Instrument Technician, and Endoscopy from a nationally recognized accreditation body.
