Cost Estimator – Manufacturing & Production
Location: Chelmsford, MA
Job Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire
Salary: $69,000 - $79,000
About the Role
Are you a detail-oriented professional with a strong analytical mindset and experience in manufacturing? We are seeking a Cost Estimator to join our team in Chelmsford, MA. In this role, you will play a critical part in evaluating project costs, supporting the sales process, and ensuring competitive and profitable pricing.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with blueprints, breaking down production processes, and contributing directly to business growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Cost Estimating: Analyze RFQs, blueprints, and technical drawings to prepare accurate cost estimates for manufacturing projects.
- Material & Labor Calculations: Determine material requirements, labor hours, and production processes to develop detailed cost breakdowns.
- Vendor Coordination: Obtain and review quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure cost efficiency and timely delivery.
- BOM & Routing: Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and manufacturing routings within ERP/MRP systems.
- Cost Analysis: Compare estimated vs. actual costs to improve future accuracy and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Cross-Functional Support: Work closely with engineering, production, and sales teams to ensure all project requirements are properly captured and priced.
Requirements
- Experience: 3–5+ years of cost estimating experience in a manufacturing environment (machining, fabrication, or electronics preferred).
- Blueprint Reading: Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Analytical Skills: Excellent math and problem-solving abilities with strong attention to detail.
- Software: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., Epicor, SAP, JobBOSS).
- Communication: Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Education: Degree in Engineering, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
