Job Description

The Chemical Operator safely unloads chemicals from railcars, operates forklifts to move materials throughout the facility, and works closely with other operators to support efficient and compliant production processes. This role also involves operating and monitoring foam pouring equipment, performing routine equipment maintenance, and ensuring product quality and workplace safety.

Responsibilities

  • Unload chemicals arriving at the facility from railcars in a safe and controlled manner.
  • Operate forklifts to transport materials and chemicals within the facility.
  • Collaborate with other operators and team members to coordinate unloading, material handling, and production activities.
  • Operate and monitor foam pouring equipment to support production requirements.
  • Adjust machine settings to ensure optimal production efficiency and product consistency.
  • Perform routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting on equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Inspect foam products and materials for consistency, quality, and adherence to specifications.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area at all times.
  • Follow all safety protocols, procedures, and guidelines related to chemical handling, equipment operation, and general workplace safety.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding production status, issues, and safety concerns.
  • Support achievement of production targets through reliable attendance, teamwork, and adherence to standard operating procedures.
  • Participate in training activities, including shadowing and on-the-job learning, to gain proficiency in all required tasks.

Essential Skills

  • Experience working with chemicals in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to safely unload chemicals from railcars using established procedures.
  • Proficiency in operating a forklift to move materials and chemicals within a facility.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand, operate, and troubleshoot production equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining product quality and consistency.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, safety protocols, and standard operating procedures.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Physical ability to lift and move heavy materials as required by the role.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or production environment is a plus.
  • Familiarity with railcar operations and chemical unloading procedures is beneficial.
  • Exposure to wastewater or related industrial processes is an advantage.
  • Willingness to participate in intensive initial training, including shadowing and hands-on learning.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and readiness to attend daily start-of-shift meetings.

Work Environment

This is a production and chemical-handling environment with a standard day shift from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, including two scheduled breaks. Employees are expected to arrive a few minutes early for a mandatory 7:00 AM meeting to review daily priorities and safety information. The first three weeks consist of intensive training, shadowing, and observation to ensure safe and competent performance of all duties, with the pace adjusted to how quickly the individual learns. Work involves operating foam pouring equipment, handling chemicals from railcars, driving forklifts, and working around industrial machinery. The environment emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and organization, with clear procedures for chemical handling and equipment operation.

This is a Contract position based out of Mansfield, MA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $23.00/hr.
