Job Description

Job DescriptionElectronic Systems R&D Engineer (Embedded Hardware)What a day could look like

You start with a whiteboard sketch and end with a production-ready design. In between, you architect circuits, draw schematics, spin prototypes, write and refine firmware, and validate performance against rigorous safety and reliability criteria. You partner with mechanical and manufacturing teams to weave electronics seamlessly into our products, then stand up automated test equipment to prove it all works—again and again.

What you will do

  • Design and build: Create electronic architectures and mixed-signal circuits, select components, produce wiring diagrams and technical documentation using tools such as Altium Designer and AutoCAD Electrical, and model behavior with SPICE or similar simulation software.
  • Prototype and program: Implement and debug embedded systems and microprocessor-based controls; iterate quickly through bench prototypes to validate concepts.
  • Test and validate: Develop and program automated test equipment, author custom test procedures, perform design validation and system-level testing, and complete safety and compliance checks.
  • Analyze and improve: Review test data, drive root-cause investigations, implement corrective actions, and optimize for reliability, manufacturability, cost, and energy efficiency.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally: Partner with production, quality, and maintenance to ensure smooth launches and robust support; train internal teams on new designs and equipment.
  • Meet codes and standards: Ensure adherence to NEC, IEEE, UL and company safety policies; contribute to lean manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Drive projects and documentation: Align engineering activities to timelines, budgets, and business goals; maintain comprehensive records of designs, system configurations, test procedures, and results.

What you bring

  • Track record of taking electronic products from concept through deployment and support.
  • Strength in analog and digital circuit design, embedded systems, and microprocessor-based control.
  • Hands-on prototyping, testing, and debugging aptitude.
  • Fluency with communication protocols such as I2C, CAN bus, SPI, and USB.
  • Analytical mindset with independent problem-solving and strong documentation habits.
  • Clear communicator who collaborates well across functions and disciplines.
  • Detail orientation and a continuous improvement approach grounded in real-world application.

Education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • 3+ years in electrical design, product development, or similar engineering roles.
  • Experience with sensors, instrumentation, and controls is preferred.
  • Familiarity with UL standards and industrial product safety testing.
  • Demonstrated success delivering reliable electrical solutions.
  • Occasional overnight travel, approximately 1–4 times per year.

Why this role matters

Your work bridges innovation and manufacturability—transforming ideas into durable, compliant, and supportable products that perform reliably in the field.
