Role:


This position supports the Chief Lending Officer (CLO) in driving business growth, providing strategic insights on market opportunities and product development. Operational oversight for the Commercial Services department. Developing relationships with members, Managing loan portfolios, ensuring strong quality credit, maintaining regulatory compliance, developing and maintaining commercial relationships and providing excellent member service. The AVP serves as a leader in the department, mentoring sales staff, and acting as a resource for the platform.


Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

Business Development & Member Relationships
• Develop, maintain strong relationships with business members, referral sources, and community partners.
• Participate in business development activities to grow commercial loans and business deposits. Partner with the Business Development Officer and Sales Department to expand and train services. Meet sales goals and develop SBA and participation lending.
• Represent Triangle Credit Union in community and professional organizations.

Leadership & Staff Development
• Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to Commercial Services staff.
• Assist with onboarding, training, and ongoing development of team members.
• Promote a culture of trust, accountability, collaboration, and high performance. Per The Advantage Model philosophy.
• Serve as acting department leader in the absence of the Chief Lending Officer as needed

Compliance, Policy & Risk Management
• Ensure adherence to credit union policies, lending guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
• Stay current on commercial lending trends, SBA programs, and regulatory changes.
• Partner with risk management, collections, and audit teams to address exceptions and findings.

Strategic & Operational Support
• Assist in the development and execution of departmental goals, strategies, and initiatives.
• Support process improvement efforts to enhance efficiency, member experience, and risk controls.
• Participate in budgeting, forecasting, and reporting activities

Commercial Lending & Portfolio Management
• Originate, structure, and manage complex commercial loan relationships.
• Familiar with making sound credit recommendations. Oversee and develop credit analyst.
• Approve loans within delegated authority and present larger or higher-risk credits for committee or senior approval.
• Monitor portfolio performance and proactively address credit quality concerns.

Knowledge and Skills:


Experience

Five years to eight years of similar or related experience. Progressively responsible experience in commercial lending, including leadership and supervisory experience.


Education

(1) A bachelor's degree, or (2) achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor's degree (e.g., information technology certifications in lieu of a degree).


Interpersonal Skills

Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is of a personal or sensitive nature. Motivating, influencing, and/or training others is key at this level. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.


Other Skills

Must have experience in analyzing business financial statements and assessing the viability of businesses; must have excellent communication and PR skills; ability to use related software required. Assist in data input and maintenance of loan files, Supply critical reports ie. credit reports, UCC statements, insurance policies and mortgage instruments. Strong communication, presentation and negotiation skills. Proficient with lending systems and related software. Ability to interpret regulatory guidance and apply to lending practices.
