Interoperability and Health Information Exchange (HIE) Project Director- The Interoperability and HIE Project Director provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for initiatives supporting the Massachusetts Health Information Exchange (Mass HIway) in partnership with the Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS). This role leads a team of account managers, drives stakeholder engagement, and advances statewide interoperability efforts by aligning technical solutions, policy, and program goals. The Director collaborates closely with EOHHS and Mass HIway leadership as well as external partners to enhance data exchange capabilities, measure program impact, and promote adoption of health information exchange across the Commonwealth.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Strategy
- Lead and develop a team of account managers supporting interoperability initiatives.
- Provide strategic direction for HIE-related programs, aligning with state and federal priorities.
- Stay current on emerging trends, standards, and regulations in health IT and interoperability.
- Contribute to organizational planning and strategy as part of the leadership team.
Stakeholder Engagement & Partnerships
- Build and maintain relationships with healthcare providers, vendors, and industry organizations.
- Represent Mass HIway in regional and national forums to inform and influence interoperability strategy.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to stakeholders, offering subject matter expertise on HIE and integration approaches.
Program Oversight & Execution
- Oversee the successful delivery of interoperability and integration projects, ensuring alignment with program goals.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to advance key initiatives
- Guide the development of tools, resources, and materials that support adoption and effective use of HIE services.
Technical & Subject Matter Expertise
- Maintain deep knowledge of interoperability standards and their practical application.
- Provide leadership in evaluating technical solutions and advancing best practices across projects.
- Support team development through training and knowledge sharing.
- Leverage AI powered tools to drive operational efficiencies and enhance productivity.
Performance & Continuous Improvement
- Establish metrics and dashboards to assess program performance and impact.
- Identify opportunities to enhance program reach, efficiency, and outcomes, including exploring funding opportunities.
- Ensure effective coordination across teams to drive consistent execution of initiatives.
ADDITIONAL EXPECTATIONS
- Monitor and interpret evolving policy and regulatory landscapes affecting interoperability.
- Support cross-functional collaboration to strengthen the connection between health data exchange and improved patient outcomes.
- Take on additional leadership responsibilities as needed to support organizational priorities.
- Participate as a member of the MeHI leadership team, contribute to the strategic and operating plans for the division, and develop and promote the linkage between health information exchange and improved patient outcomes
- Perform additional tasks that may be assigned from time to time by the MeHI Director, the MassTech CEO or their designee
Requirements
Experience
- Eight or more years of work experience in a health care technology, community-based or private health care setting, including public sectors, with demonstrated experience planning or implementing digital health solutions.
- Experience leading a high performing team in a health care technology environment or comparable experience leading project teams in a project management role.
- Experience consulting on electronic health records or health information exchange implementations is highly encouraged.
- Successful project management or related experience required. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is desirable.

- Proven ability to build productive relationships and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders across community, industry, and political environments
- Sound judgment and problem solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex issues and develop creative, practical solutions
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, managing multiple priorities and researching solutions as needed
- Experience designing, managing, and delivering complex projects to successful completion
- High attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high quality work
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related business applications
This position requires candidates to be able to work at our Westborough or Boston, MA office at least two days per week. This is not a fully remote position.
The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $119,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. Final compensation will be determined based on the candidate’s background, skills, and internal equity.
Attend offsite and inter‑office meetings as required, including travel between Boston and Westborough office locations. Some work locations and meeting sites may not be accessible by public transportation.
