Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
A professional Sign Language Interpreter is needed to provide communication support at a high school setting in the Hillsborough, NH area. This contract position is scheduled for the upcoming school year, offering an opportunity to contribute to the educational success of students requiring sign language interpretation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate effective communication between Deaf or hard-of-hearing students and educators during classroom instruction, meetings, and school events.
- Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa with accuracy and cultural sensitivity.
- Collaborate with teachers and school staff to support student inclusion and accessibility.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards in all interactions.
- Assist with clarifying instructional materials and classroom discussions as needed.
Desired Qualifications:
- Proficient in American Sign Language with proven interpreting experience in educational settings.
- Knowledge of educational terminology and the ability to interpret subject matter clearly.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and other staff.
- Relevant certification or licensure preferred but not required.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
