Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor's of Early Childhood Education degree or related field preferred
  • Massachusetts Office of Early Education and Care Certification required
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • Montessori classroom experience helpful
  • Experience in curriculum development and implementation
  • Knowledge of child development and behavior management techniques
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations
  • Track record for fostering a nurturing and engaging learning environment

RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):

Teaching & Classroom Planning:

  • Implement teaching practices consistent with a child centered philosophy, ensuring dignity and respect for each child.
  • Plan activities that promote growth in emotional, social, cognitive, and physical development.
  • Recognize and address the unique needs of each child, considering cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, individual talents, learning styles, and pace.
  • Develop and execute room set up based on developmental needs and interests of the children, including art, music, literacy and food preparation.

Family Communication and Conferences:

  • Maintain clear communication with families through newsletters and weekly updates on children’s progress.
  • Plan and conduct family-teacher conferences to share insights on the child’s development and progress.
  • Maintain accurate records of children’s progress, development, and any other required documentation.

Classroom Environment and Maintenance:

  • Maintain a safe, prepared learning environment that is inviting and appealing.
  • Update materials as needed, keeping them engaging and aligned with students’ developmental needs and interests.
  • Report any equipment repairs, maintenance needs, or supplies to administration.
  • Ensure a normalized classroom at all times, promoting order and calm.
  • Outdoor Learning: Plan to spend time each day in our outdoor classroom/play space, connecting children to nature and encouraging exploration, physical activity, and outdoor learning.

Emotional Support - Positive Discipline:

  • Promote positive discipline, encouraging respect for oneself and others.
  • Provide guidance to children in the development of self-regulation, conflict resolution, and emotional expression.
  • Encourage and guide children to take responsibility for their environment by teaching them to set up and clean their own spaces, during work time, outside time, snack and lunch. put materials back on shelves, and take ownership of their learning.
  • Foster autonomy and encourage consistent routines, including arrival, preparing to come and go from outdoors and end of day.

Team Collaboration and Development:

  • Work collaboratively with other team members, maintaining positive relationships and a strong team dynamic.
  • Supervise Assistant Teachers in supporting daily classroom activities and ensuring the well-being of the children.
  • Attend team meetings and participate in school programs, continually seeking to expand your knowledge by attending professional development opportunities.
  • Share new ideas, materials, and teaching strategies with colleagues.

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain required records as per center and state policies.
  • Ensure strict confidentiality regarding children and their families.
  • Be open to training, supervision, and guidance as needed.
  • Maintain a proper staff-child ratio at all times.

Other Duties:

  • Log and keep annual professional development current.
  • Perform other related duties as requested by the Management Team.
  • Collaborate with other team members and the Management Team to create a harmonious and effective school environment.
  • Be able to be comfortably get up and down from the floor with the children.
  • Be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21 - $23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 – 40 per week
