About Our Client
Addison Group is hiring a Project Engineer for our client, a well-established civil construction firm specializing in highway, roadway, and runway infrastructure projects throughout the region.
Job Description
The Project Engineer will support construction and estimating teams by developing and maintaining CAD-based deliverables, assisting with project planning, and providing field and GPS layout support. This role blends office-based engineering work with hands-on field involvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Project Managers and Estimators during the bidding and preconstruction phases
- Develop and maintain CAD files for active construction projects
- Convert engineering plans and PDFs into usable CAD and GPS-ready formats
- Build surface models, prepare as-built drawings, and calculate quantities such as cut/fill, lengths, and areas
- Review design drawings to verify accuracy of survey control and point data
- Create control point and localization files for GPS layout
- Coordinate with survey crews on data uploads/downloads and field support
- Perform quantity takeoffs and assist with cost estimating efforts
- Conduct GPS field layout, survey verification, and as-built data collection
- Establish horizontal and vertical control networks and layout baselines
- Ensure drawings and revisions are properly tracked and distributed to the field
- Follow all safety standards and comply with federal, state, and local regulations
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Computer Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related field with 2+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering strongly preferred
- Experience using AutoCAD for civil construction projects required; Civil 3D highly preferred
- Previous survey or field layout experience a plus
- Familiarity with estimating software (e.g., Bid2Win, Agtek Earthworks) preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Working knowledge of civil infrastructure projects including paving, grading, drainage, utilities, concrete, and sewer systems
Special Requirements
- Valid driver’s license required
- Ability to obtain OSHA 10 certification (OSHA 30 preferred)
- Excavation, Trenching, and Fall Protection certifications are a plus
