Job Overview

As a Surgical Technician, you will work under the supervision of the surgical team in the Operating Room, delivering exceptional patient care throughout the perioperative experience. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting the Surgeon by providing the appropriate instruments.
  • Maintaining and organizing operating room equipment.
  • Adhering to the policies, procedures, and objectives of the department and hospital.
  • Collaborating with team members to ensure quality healthcare delivery.

Job DescriptionMinimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience as a surgical technologist in a surgical facility before July 1, 2013, OR completion of a military surgical technology training program; OR graduation from an accredited Surgical Tech Program.
  • If employed as a Surgical Technologist after July 1, 2013, Surgical Technologist Certification (CST) is required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The following duties are essential to the role and may evolve over time:

  • Function professionally as a Surgical Technologist across various surgical procedures.
  • Maintain strict aseptic technique during set-up and procedures.
  • Scrub on surgical cases and assist in organizing instrumentation.
  • Select and prepare appropriate instruments and supplies for surgeries.
  • Manage intraoperative medications and surgical specimens according to policy.
  • Assist in patient positioning and transport as needed.
  • Participate in quality improvement and continuing education activities.
  • Foster a collaborative work environment with peers and colleagues.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in semi-restricted and restricted environments of the Operating Room.
  • Stand under hot surgical lights for extended periods.
  • Lift patients and heavy equipment, with awareness of potential hazards.
  • Frequent exposure to hazardous materials and conditions.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of aseptic techniques and infection prevention.
  • Basic understanding of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Proficiency in using surgical equipment and technology.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication with staff and patients.
  • Knowledge of procedures related to surgical specialties.
