Job Overview
As a Surgical Technician, you will work under the supervision of the surgical team in the Operating Room, delivering exceptional patient care throughout the perioperative experience. Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting the Surgeon by providing the appropriate instruments.
- Maintaining and organizing operating room equipment.
- Adhering to the policies, procedures, and objectives of the department and hospital.
- Collaborating with team members to ensure quality healthcare delivery.
Job DescriptionMinimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience as a surgical technologist in a surgical facility before July 1, 2013, OR completion of a military surgical technology training program; OR graduation from an accredited Surgical Tech Program.
- If employed as a Surgical Technologist after July 1, 2013, Surgical Technologist Certification (CST) is required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The following duties are essential to the role and may evolve over time:
- Function professionally as a Surgical Technologist across various surgical procedures.
- Maintain strict aseptic technique during set-up and procedures.
- Scrub on surgical cases and assist in organizing instrumentation.
- Select and prepare appropriate instruments and supplies for surgeries.
- Manage intraoperative medications and surgical specimens according to policy.
- Assist in patient positioning and transport as needed.
- Participate in quality improvement and continuing education activities.
- Foster a collaborative work environment with peers and colleagues.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in semi-restricted and restricted environments of the Operating Room.
- Stand under hot surgical lights for extended periods.
- Lift patients and heavy equipment, with awareness of potential hazards.
- Frequent exposure to hazardous materials and conditions.
Skills & Abilities:
- Advanced knowledge of aseptic techniques and infection prevention.
- Basic understanding of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
- Proficiency in using surgical equipment and technology.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication with staff and patients.
- Knowledge of procedures related to surgical specialties.
