Job Overview

As a proficient Surgical Technician, you will work under the supervision of the surgical team in the Operating Room, delivering top-notch patient care throughout the perioperative experience. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting the Surgeon by providing the appropriate instruments and maintaining operating room equipment.
  • Adhering to the policies and procedures of the department and hospital.
  • Collaborating with team members to create a quality healthcare system.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience as a surgical technologist in a surgical facility before July 1, 2013, or completion of a military training program, or graduation from an accredited Surgical Tech Program.
  • If employed after July 1, 2013, Surgical Technologist Certification (CST) is required.
  • 12 months to less than 3 years of healthcare experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties are essential to your role:

  • Function professionally as a Surgical Technologist across various surgical procedures.
  • Maintain strict aseptic technique during set-up and procedures.
  • Scrub on surgical cases and assist in organizing instrumentation.
  • Select and prepare appropriate instruments and supplies for surgical cases.
  • Manage intraoperative medications and surgical specimens according to policy.
  • Assist in patient positioning and transport as needed.
  • Participate in quality improvement and continuing education activities.
  • Act as a Preceptor for staff in training.

Physical Requirements

As a Surgical Technician, you should be prepared for:

  • Working in semi-restricted and restricted environments of the Operating Room.
  • Standing for prolonged periods under hot surgical lights.
  • Handling heavy equipment and patients, with potential exposure to hazardous materials.

Skills & Abilities

To excel in this role, you should possess:

  • Advanced knowledge of aseptic techniques and infection prevention.
  • Intermediate knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication with staff and patients.
  • Proficiency in surgical procedures across multiple specialties.
